Yes, the fastest 486 systems could just barely do full-quality 44.1/16 MP3 decoding (DX4/100, etc) Even then a DOS player was a better bet than Winamp. A SE/30 would be absolutely screwed.

the window you use to run command.com was for DOS programs only. This is not strictly true. You could launch Windows programs from the DOS box. If you tried to run something like PBRUSH.EXE from true DOS you would get "This program

Very many artists don't play live, and of those that do, even fewer make any reasonable money from it... so failing that, Bandcamp is where it's at. As (also) an artist who sells on Bandcamp, I think their model is unquestionably

It's also lightning fast, unlike Google Docs. It's seriously mind-boggling how far we've regressed that we're running Javascript word processors on eight core 3 GHz machines and yet are arguably worse off in terms of per

you’ve reached the end of your new feed This was actually a nice, user-friendly addition for once. But it's pretty much a cure for a disease that they invented themselves; the removal of the strictly chronological feed.

You could easily outsource ad sales while still serving the images unobtrusively from your own server.

Good idea, but they are not tech companies, so they likely lack the ability to do so. They'd best gain the ability, then, or fade into irrelevance and die. And honestly, we're talking about serving a few images from their own we

More functional than and just as reliable as what? There are thousands and thousands of headphone models with the standard plug, many of which are arguably much more functional and reliable.

I mean, I guess... Apple is always early when it comes to killing stuff. But as late as 2016 you could still buy a new MacBook Pro with a DVD drive.

We'll just have to agree to disagree, then, because I find that there are zero advantages to Bluetooth in this case. I mean, wireless would be nice in an ideal world where there are no disadvantages, but for me, they are so hefty that

They were removed only when few people used them because there was a better alternative. Many, many people use headphones with 3,5 mm plugs and it is not at all clear that the alternative is better.

With support for Windows 7 Professional ending in 2020, I'm not sure where to go from here. Maybe you'll be able to do what some folks did with Windows XP and use a registry hack to trick Windows into receiving security patches

Nitpicking, but this is not a VESA mode, it is plain VGA mode 12h (640x480x16).

But it also used to be that new Windows versions came out around every three years so by the time you needed a new computer, you'd be paying the Windows tax again anyway. In practice, not a lot of difference.

If you use Windows 7 on modern processors (Ryzen/Skylake), Windows Update stops working so you won't get security updates.
