I'm located in Germany and when asked I (and others I know) always say 25869. That's Germany's smallest zip code, a remote island with only 5 people living there. Stats should look funny for that zip :) What's the smalle

Perfectly executed. But for home use I would have just screwed an RC servo motor on the front to press the button :)

How does this comparing of certificate hashes work? If the connection is plain text in the middle, can't the hash also be forged?

by eik3_de 13y ago
If they pull everything from undersea cables they must have all CA Certificates from all over the world to do the man-in-the-middle for encrypted connections.. plausible?

That's what I thought. If the f word had to be edited out, why not something like "Heroku [curse word] console"

HN question: I submitted this story with the title "Heroku f.cking console" and the title was changed to "Heroku console". Is the string "f.cking" considered unappropriate on HN? What about "f.,.ing" or "f'ing"? Edit: replaced the asterisks

Some data: In the US, there are about 3.45 homicides with firearms per 100,000 population per year. In Germany (where I live), this figure is 0.19, that is roughly factor 18.

I wouldn't call it solid: All that the 'bad guy' needs to go shopping with a stolen CC is control over an email box of a BufferBox customer. DHL had to learn it the hard way, and I'm sure they didn't come up with two factor authentication (

How does the security of BufferBox/Amazon Locker compare to Packstation? To get your packet out of a Packstation, you need both the (magnetic strip) card that they send you on signup and a one-time PIN they send via SMS (not email). This mi

DHL "Packstation" started 10 years ago here in Germany, now those boxes are everywhere in populated areas. I was somewhat surprised that it isn't popular in the US.

You should tack a "LC_CTYPE=C" in front of grep to get comparable results. A multibyte CTYPE can slow down grep up to factor 30.

That's why I have this in the shell config and use it daily: alias h='curl -sIX GET -w "Total time: %{time_total} s\n"' It issues a GET request, only prints the response headers and displays the time it took.
