This is interesting, especially in the context of this interview Andreesen did in Stanford Graduate Business School: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JYYsXzt1VDc where he talks about consuming news and how current news is ri

I think it's obvious that a startup's culture is heavily influenced by its founders, I think the more subtle point is that a culture is more affected by the things they do than the things they say, though if they say one thing and

I hadn't encountered this, being across the Atlantic, but the behaviour is not uncommon. I once knew a man who in his younger days was really interested in puppetry, an got into a art-college-type puppet-making and puppetry course in t

I think especially with management tools like Trello robustness is a huge factor, everyone seems to have their own series of cobbled together processes that kind of work for them, but with the feeling that maybe if they could digitise $PROD

Completely agree with leiningen, it's not an opinionated choice, just what I've seen with maven seems a huge hassle. In terms of editors I've hit this a bit, attempting to follow tutorials or the like is frequently met with &

Sounds reasonable, I look forward to seeing the full details in August to get the full picture, but those assumptions seem fair.

I just signed up to Pinboard and got your app to help use it on iOS. Initial impressions are good, I like it a lot, but if I could make one feature request I would love to have another way to add bookmarks. If there was a big plus button I

I was considering writing something about this but wasn't sure if there was an audience. Startups are a gung-ho never-say-die world where quitting is very much frowned upon but the reality can be tough. You can face a lot of forgivable

There can be a lot of dangerous signs around money, and your mileage may vary on when it's okay or not. Prior to leaving I was OK, if wary, with 'Em so X can't make rent this month, is it OK if we take 500 euro from your sala

Absolutely true, and so often missed. While it may be true that a good programmer can learn any language the cost of this is time, and nowhere is the phrase 'time is money' more true than in a startup.

I second this, food and light are both important parts of the process. Have used something similar to this to prevent jetlag on both legs of multiple transatlantic/panasiatic flights (though it has to be said travelling west-to-east i

Speed was really a killer for me too, it became slow very easily. It also began erroring out of update-checks and package installs, making it feel quite worthy of the beta tag. Look forward to seeing where it is now!

As a fellow Irishman I agree, it could work very well with tourists too, a drinking tour of Dublin where you have to solve the leprechaun's riddles markets itself!

Hardship in itself is crap. Hardship that leads somewhere might kinda be good in retrospect, maybe. The startup world seems intent on getting people to buy into the idea that all hardship is that sort of hardship.

I had thought Statwing set up the remote stuff and then automated a lot of tasks in-browser, but it doesn't seem to give the easy access this does. This is a lot more attractive!

Great post, good luck with the product! I recently did almost the exact opposite of this, quit work with a startup. While I learned a lot of what you mention in your post (being a self-starter is a huge asset) at the time continuing work th

I'd love to see, as I say there seems to be a lot of work to show exactly how Apple is twisting things compared to others, I'd love to see if that was because Apple is a lot worse for that or if people just don't examine thei
