I agree with you in general, but I feel like you take a wrong perspective of it. The author takes a top-down approach to teaching, which basically means that he thought about this tutorial from his perspective, someone that was already inti

I'd guess that people probably thought his comment was fake (not sure about any other comments, even his comment doesn't seem downvoted): The OP's original comment contains entire praise for the product being described in the article, almos

The point is to not become as good as a smart nerd, because you'll be playing catch up your whole life. The point is that you need to show that you know enough about your idea on the technical side that you can communicate effectively with

True enough, but I think it applies to a lot more cities than people might think. Many of the developers I talk to in Ann Arbor, for example, are working on 2-3 projects in their spare time, and are constantly being asked to work on more. A

I think the author doesn't go far enough in his post. Yes, ideas are worthless. But finding "smart nerds" is an almost fruitless endeavor as well. It's not that they don't exist, but they are so sought after, and are doing so many projects

No one will like a site without a few more of those features your site doesn't have. There's the old phrase "it's whats on the inside that counts", but with first impressions, that's simply just not true. I look at your site, and I see its

There are definitely problems with RFID tags, but I think QR codes are even worse. That's why I say it's a stopgap -- maybe RFID fixes its issues, or maybe something completely better comes out, but I don't see QR codes being around 10 year

As a consumer, I hate QR codes. They totally obfuscate what is going to happen -- Many times there is little to no information about where a QR code will send me. As an iPhone user, I also need to download an app to read the QR codes, and s

For me, 24 hours felt like too little to get something very cool out. However, I had the same mindset as you in that I felt a 40 hour or 48 hour hackathon I would never be able to stay up for. So, I decided to meet in the middle: 36 hours

If you guys have any questions, feel free to ask them here. This will be our first crack at what we hope to be a bi-annual event for Ann Arbor, and we already have over $2000 in prizes for the event. We hope you guys will come!

Paul Graham represents a brand bigger than himself. When you stop caring what you say to who, it has implications to all those companies that belong to that bigger brand, along with the brand itself.

I can see what you are saying, but I'd disagree that this would be useful to someone launching on HN. The advice given is very general [besides the "Post on a weekend" suggestion]. Even as children we were told that "sticks and stones may b

If this is true, that price is pretty damn killer. Pricing your tablet at $300 less than the main competition is huge, and now a tablet fits comfortably between a Kindle and a Netbook in terms of price.

Great point. I have also noticed the decline in Groupon quality recently for my area. That being said, once you are the 500 pound gorilla in the market, will people really have a choice but to go through you? I don't like ebay, but I deal w
