That’s true, but... that culture isn’t there for Windows users the way it is for Linux users.

For those wondering, as I did, who’s behind this terrible report: > The background check company is Sterling Talent Solutions, and it looks like they contracted with Fama Technologies for this part of the report.

That’s highly nontrivial. (And by the way, almost no one uses reexam anymore. It’s all about IPR these days.)

It’s not at all unheard of for a patent to take 5 years to be granted. Do those folks just lose out? Or do we base patent term on issue date instead of filing date? (NB: it used to be that way, and it invited all sorts of gamesmanship.)

€ I strongly believe that the pursuing of patents gets in the way of the collaboration that helps science progress Do you have any evidence for this belief?

That can’t be right. > “Health care is a right for all, not a privilege“ Insurance has to be free too!

> “Health care is a right for all, not a privilege“ In that case, charging people even $100 a month is unconscionable. It needs to be free, just like food, housing, entertainment, and all the other inalienable rights.

How is it possible to reason about filter() without thinking it through as effectively a conditional? How is that easier than being explicit about it?

Branches aren’t hard to reason about though. The only* reason anyone cares about branches is that branch misprediction is expensive.

My biggest annoyance with my iPad is accidentally opening links in a new Safari window. Sometimes that happens when I’m just scrolling and didn’t mean to open the link at all. So now you have multiple Safari windows that are completely un

It’s... jokey. But it’s not exactly unsubstantive. It really is unsurprising to hear that a company that purports to give unbiased reviews is actually asking for kickbacks from manufacturers. That is the most obvious way for such a company

Or even race, for that matter. What if you have someone who’s 1/1024th diverse like Elizabeth Warren? What if you have someone who’s “transracial”?

There are real benefits, but they’re not direct. Basically some companies and government agencies won’t do business with you if your management is insufficiently diverse.
