Right. Most of their value is in the short-mid term. At some point everybody will be using IPv6 and these old addresses won’t matter much.

Is the answer even well-defined? Seems like without spaces, there could be strings that decode to multiple possible (possibly nonsense) “sentences.”

Payment for order flow doesn’t mean you’re losing good order execution.

Any thoughts on why markup stays so high if the industry is actually cutthroat? Competition should be driving margin way down.

Maybe just stop adding tracking links altogether.

I was mostly joking. USB-C is fine if you get the right cables. But that can be a big “if.” It’s a far cry from the trivial “just plug anything into anything with any cable and it’ll work” that we were promised.

Having just dealt with the HDMI cable 4K refresh rate debacle, I can say that it is indeed a mess. The only way to make it worse would be to incorporate USB-C somehow.

2 isn’t an alien, exactly... but it’s a little bit of an oddball amongst the primes. There are indeed a lot of theorems that start with “let p be an odd prime.”

How do you run a checksum of a binary you download to your phone?

For an open source app distributed on the App Store, is there actually any way of verifying that what you get on your phone is the same as the source code you can read?

Yes, paternalism is a reason. It’s just not a very good reason.

The point is they’re not worse off for the existence of an option that they can choose not to exercise.

But it is voluntary. The power disparity doesn’t force anyone to do anything.

If they don’t like the interest rates, they’re free not to take out a loan. They’re strictly better off in the sense that they now have an option they didn’t have before, and they can choose whether or not to exercise the option.

Nobody’s holding a gun to their heads. This is a voluntary transaction. Even if we paternalistically shake our heads at the interest rates and the way these companies do business... they are giving people an option that did not exist before

As long as the chip is in one piece, it shouldn’t be an issue. And if the chip gets smashed open... tritium is hydrogen. It’ll just float away and dissipate.
