A long time ago, I built a business around off-the-shelf IP cameras. The field was full of buggy firmware with enormous security holes (biggest I found was to be able to acquire pictures without even being authorised!). Hardly none of these

Well... Maybe re-inventing was part of the fun or a learning experience. If you want, there is even this: https://github.com/Mitigram/docker-compose-build

I have written dew ( https://github.com/efrecon/dew ) for more or less the same purpose. I hardly keep any binary (and dependency) in my installation, they are all inside containers that I can easily dispose of at any ti

You are entirely right. Problem with the sha256 is that you kind of need a comment pointing to the proper tag (at the time of generation). It gets tedious with time.

What is disgusting with shrinkflation is that it also has an environmental impact. In the end, the same volume/weight will require even more packaging.

I do the same. Swarm is the way to go since you already have compose files, but I have made the choice that it is not worth it. Until you hit scaling issues (as in many customers/users).

In vscode extensions that rely on an external binary to do most of the job?

I actually don't, but I think this has to do with the generations of the hardware and software combo. Early stuff would typically be very stable. Towards the end of their gold era, SGI urge out new stuff and reliability went down.

But an onyx wasn't really a "workstation" anymore. The one we had at work required a 3-phase plug to support all the rendering pipes. Mini-super-computer would probably best define it

I wrote something similar to be able to run vscode against any remote machine. This was before vscode's own tunnels. https://github.com/efrecon/sshd-cloudflared It automatically runs a dockerised sshd to access yo

It's nor entirely cool, nor revolutionary, but I use this many times a day, so I thought that it could maybe fit in. I've built dew ( https://github.com/efrecon/dew ). It's a glorified way of running a doc

I have been using VS code remote tunnels recently and used the terminal from there when connected. It's been surprisingly an ok experience. Perhaps not the fastest terminal on earth, but it'll work for most workflows

This is Docker Desktop. They have an official explanation for it: https://docs.docker.com/desktop/faqs/linuxfaqs/#why-does-doc... . You can still install the docker engine directly if you want.

I am using it in exactly that context and it is good enough for the level of security I need to achieve. I understand this can be brute forced, but this is a risk I am willing to take given the level of "secrecy" of the content.

I offer you all this one instead. There is a one liner to use it in the comments. It is a template to the docker inspect command. So the only thing you need to download is the template itself. I tried to persuade the docker maintainers that

There is a project doing some version of ext FS on top of S3. Just can't remember what it's called right now. It's active and on GH.

I have a VERY vague memory that you could copy win32s from 3.1 into 3.0 to help running 32bit apps there. There might have been some fiddling with some sys.ini involved. But I might just be dreaming awake or something...

I agree, getting to know where a script "comes from" can be complex though. You can `readlink -f` (or equivalent) in many cases, but when implementing a library this might not be entirely practical. I have had to rely on this ugly

(Sweden here). In those times of climate change, I find having a timid summer reassuring. I know this isn't rational at all, but it gives me a tiny bit of hope.
