This comment is spot on. JPA/Hibernate is a very big leaky abstraction. That's why I ditched the whole thing and started to use things like jOOQ instead. In the end you must learn SQL to make sense of all of this anyway.

Wait what? I thought Python was an interpreted language. Did I miss something?

Yea I just finished with a "training" about D&I. I just don't get it. Those people who didn't care still won't care but they will be pissed too. It won't have an effect on those who cared. At this point I t

I completely understand this. I spent 10+ years trying to "save the world" just to learn that the world doesn't want to be saved. The problem is that most companies (the big ones especially) are [inherently pathological][gerv

I forgot the question mark: (who configures the database?). So it is about the problem that if you have your configs in a database then you will carry the additional burden to separately set up databases for each environment....it is like t

I've never played any of these games apart from Skyrim. How would you compare the two? I've heard that this game is legendary. For me Skyrim's atmosphere was awesome, but the storyline was a bit meh. Edit: thanks for all the

Mostly configuration stored in the database (who configures the database) or 3rd party configuration services without an SLA and config files that are either present or not. Env vars are really simple since they are completely decoupled fro

I worked in an office many years ago where I noticed that the accountant always stayed late in the office. I once asked her and she said: "I stay late because when they leave I can finally start to work".

I cannot agree more. If I have to choose between spending time with my kid or actual friends vs sitting in my car commuting it is an absolute no brainer. Thankfully I have been a contractor for a while and I don't need to put up with t

I came here for this comment. I'm a developer and I have been using env vars for quite some time after I got burned numerous times by other options. I just can't see why I would use anything else.

This is an absolutely horrible idea. As Raoul Pal always says: "Capital will find a way. It always does.". Let's take a look at some examples with real estate: George owns a flat, he lives in it. He owns no other properties a

A bit tangential, but I started using Chakra UI on one of my projects and I really like it. Performs much better than Tailwind probably because it comes with batteries included and I almost never have to touch CSS in any form.
