Depends on the ‘consulting’ - are you giving strategic advice to the CTO’s office at a multinational? You could be making millions! Are you augmenting an SME’s team as an IC? You can make a little more than an employee after accounting for

Mojo released an example of their new language which will mean readability and simplicity compared to the Python implementation will surely have been a requirement… I get someone within Modular doing some horrific looking low-level Mojo stu

Okay I looked up the team and agree they are brilliant, but I still don't know if I trust them to make this open in the longterm. Why can't they open it on Github but just not accept PRs?

You’d expect that to happen as potential interactions increase, I assume. I’ve always wanted to learn how to use a modelling tool like TLA+ or something to find breaking issues in games - like first turn wins (that isn’t just Exodia in Yugi

Probably, but again K is a language from 1993. I think closed-source languages are relics from a time it was more normal and some are so established they're still accepted, but new closed-source languages feel out of touch. Can you t

Who would risk using a closed-source language? I know some academic groups using Matlab, and I know some engineering companies use tools like Simulink, but these are very established products. I don't think I could even get sign-off

Ha, that is a substantial gap. I was expecting some issues with third party libraries, not a core part of the language missing.

They still hire SDETs so I assume it's not true, however I did have a manager who said his whole team were laid off from Microsoft so I imagine they had some substantial downsizing from these days [0]. [0] https://techcommun

This is an issue with QA as a whole. It shouldn’t be some bug counting department - if they did their job well then they won’t find bugs at the end of the process (because bugs were found left, and bugs will still exist because exhaustive s

Personally I think it should just default to front-of-building but have a no-charge button to have delivery to the door which drivers can see in advance. Then if they don't want to bother they can skip it, and if people need a delivery

So I've just spent some time looking into this - there are Cobol compilers that target JVM and .NET. GnuCOBOL compiles to C too. Apparently 80% of all bank transactions and 95% of all ATM transactions in America are still running COBOL
