Would it help if instead of software "architecture," we called in software "organization?" It seems like nobody would demand "proof" if Martin was arguing that it is faster and easier to find a book in a librar

I once worked on a team of about 30 people building a website for a university that could have been a team of one dev and one designer and a static site generator.

Dropbox ended up be an institutional requirement where I was working. Now I just let iCloud do it’s thing. It isn’t great, but it is less buggy than Dropbox.

Unison and Wings 3D are both projects I wanted to make changes to when I was using them. Downloaded the source code for both, spent a day or so reading and fiddling and got bored. I actually like learning new languages, but I don’t have the

Maybe, I really like Lisp and especially Scheme. Don't get me wrong. I just think that a lot of projects suffer from being written in a language with a small community or even, at the time of conception, a thriving yet fleeting communi

Absolutely, I have a entry in my journal about wanting to rewrite Unison in C. Never got around to it, but it would still be fun. The same goes with Wings 3D, cool app, but Erlang? Really?

What do you mean "share" the road with cars? I walk almost everywhere. I have a Zipcar account that I use less than once a month and a bus pass that I use even less frequently. It is hard to say how many of my neighbors are car-le

I used to use it daily to sync projects, music, and documents between computers too. It was really nice once I got it configured to my liking. I would sync my work computer to a external hard drive and the external drive to my home computer

I live in a suburb of Seattle, I haven’t owned a car for about two years. It used to be owning a car was liberating, but now I think the day I sold my car was one of the most liberating days of my life.

A sizable number of Mac users are not really Mac users, they happen to use a Mac at work or for some other reason, and usually end using the likes of Chrome, GIMP, Gmail, Google Docs, and all manner of Electron apps.

I just think of the 3 vertical dots as vertical ellipsis. I often use vertical ellipsis when making a list that continues. e.g. — History of Empire and Colonialism — History of Religion and Society — History of Race, Gender, and Power ⋮

Actually the icon looks like three menu items. It is a pretty good icon for signaling that it will open a menu. The hamburger nomenclature seems to be an ex pos facto name for something that rightfully should be called the menu icon.

I think you're right about this. I'd much rather read LISP for Poets or LISP for Future Presidents than something with a title that is insulting or degrading. There's probably a considerable market for books that educate and

Yes, remapping caps lock to either control or escape is supported by Apple, but not remapping to both control AND escape.

After remapping my caps key to be both control and escape I honestly don’t know how I used to work with the real escape key. If anything, Apple should build this mapping into macOS so I don’t have to use some third-party app to do it.

Personally I think it is time for Apple to drop the "i". For lots of stuff they already have stopped naming with the "i", Apple TV, Apple Watch, Apple Music. Maybe they should also just start capitalizing properly too. P

I doubt that claim so much. Every Electron application I've ever used is seriously deficient in many ways. First every app has its own set of UI controls, so right there you loose one of the best things about native Mac apps, consisten
