Or PoS Ethereum or other PoS crypto currencies can take the place of exponentially energy-hungry PoW. They explicitly deal with the 50%+ attacks in their governance too.

This is all conditional on Oracle actually giving others a proprietary license like Azul received. Oracle can say no, and in this case they might actually have given that it's ARM and not some proprietary chip that only Azul makes and

Latency is important as you say, and I would say that it's highly variable depending on the router and ISP you have. This Google mesh WiFi update made a huge difference for me: https://support.google.com/wifi/answe

This is really a distinction without a difference, none of these companies choose to forego a OpenJDK distribution and all of them actually contribute to it. If it wasn't compelling to do these things, they wouldn't do it. FOSS an

Redhat is a big contributor to OpenJDK, so there's really less of a "maybe not" than you think. Even Azul maintains an OpenJDK distribution, so copyleft is playing a part in keeping things more open and supported than not.

I think a FP16 or BF16 ALU could be added sooner rather than later, but getting something equivalent to the performance of say a Nvidia 1050 or 1080 (first consumer cards to have FP16 and INT8 from Nvidia I think) would take a couple of ite

That doesn't sound so good, but I can do one better. The 4 FP EUs/core on the M1 (x64 has 2) that likely lead to this result might also lead other languages to use more floats and doubles.
