"You describe what you want, not how to get it." The entire archive of the pgsql users' mailing list disagrees. Every wants to know why their plan is suboptimal, or why it changed. People also want to know why the planner t

And the query plan can literally change out from under you at any time. SQL sucks. You should be able to dictate the query plan to the engine directly. If SQL exists as a tool to create and serialize such plans via exploration and experimen

That's a good point. The die in the SOIC package (the one that costs 15 cents) probably is smaller? Which means it might also have a different layout.

Personally I prefer to have parts that require external protection, rather than parts with robust internal protections that cost more or compromise the performance or that I have to hack around. It's more work, board area, and overall

While you marvel at this circuit remember that it was invented decades ago, for many purposes it is still state-of-the-art, and it costs fifteen cents.

I vividly remember an incident in 1999 when I was sitting in an open plan office of about thirty programmers in San Francisco and a recruiter war-dialed every phone in the company in numerical order, which also happened to describe a space-

Well, to be fair to the authors, their idea became a system in the linux kernel within Google years ago. It's only the general public that has been deprived of its benefit.

That's a good reason why a court could order that an LLC be allowed to mask its ownership, but not a good reason why all LLCs should be allowed to do so as a blanket policy.

You're right but without more information we shouldn't really take what's printed in the newspaper at face value. Was it really a punctured _cell_ as you and I understand it, or was it a punctured _assembly_? A battery pack

You can kinda make that sound bad, and it might have been bad, but reworking pieces is standard practice in many industries. "Fixed with adhesive" sounds like a hack but there are many wonderful adhesives.

Privacy is for things you do in private. Forming a corporation is necessarily public because a corporation is a creation of the state, and therefore everyone's business.

Relinking binaries running on a phone sounds even less profitable. How much battery energy are you willing to waste here?

That doesn't seem like it would be profitable. Profiling the running process, processing the profile, and then relinking the binary on a single host wouldn't pay off compared to profiling in the large, relinking the program once

In my experience if you take one big service and break it into two, each binary will be pretty much just as big as the original. All of that library code is still in there, all that static data is still reachable. Nobody knows why but it

Moreover, the outcome of a new expression isn't strongly defined. Your class may override operator new for any class-type T, and you may also override global operator new, and you may do whatever it is that you like when you do so. S

Their reasoning is interesting: they use exceptions. Google notoriously does not. I wonder if Google (and the other AutoFDO contributors, of course) have overlooked something crucial that the exception-using people need.
