For me the selling point of cloud run is that is easy to develop and debug: make it run locally, test it, then ship it in a container. For GCP cloud functions, AWS lambdas, Azure cloud functions you must fight somehow against the environmen

I'm surprised to see how close the DCs are to the river. Fortunately it's in the high part of the river, less prone to overflow.

Are you truly paranoid? If my money and/or job depended on having something running without (or with minimal) disruption I would be as paranoid as you, too. BTW - Some people call this business recovery plan, not plain paranoia ;-)

A friend did something similar: he bought a hosting business and paid with cash the business made. Totally licit. It was a similar case: the founders just wanted to pivot and do something else after >5 years in the business.

But that would be an asset, not an expense. It depreciates over time and your accounting department must track it somehow in the books. Ok, maybe you could sign a leasing for the mini; and still be cheaper than AMZ but... your company would

I used 'To live is to die' by Metallica. It starts with a nice tune, and you have less than one minute to turn it off before the music changes (slowliy) with the drums and distorted guitars ;-)

Not so effective :D They also have time syncronization issues and they are very slow to syncronize to their NTP source (the sun). It takes them _months_ to sync from boot unless you are very lucky and the "hardware" is only a few

I believe Cisco had an unikernel running on Vmware for SDN vSwitches. Makes sense: you "only" need to move packets from some vLan to another vLan/vNic after applying policies... and you can forget about supporting hardware m

IMHO FB ads a a pile of #@ ! In my experience, a message sent to the appropiate FB group can outperform by a factor of 10 facebok ads. Not just clickthroughs, but also repeated visits after 2 weeks. If you buy traffic from a specific countr

Yes and no: Lambdas (and cloud functions) are to the cloud what Triggers are to Databases. They're very useful to react to events; but they also impose a lock-in. For (very) light usage I feel they're ok. But this is an opinionate

The chat inside Salesforce was horrible. They get a good one with very little churn. Plus they have voice and video calling. You can integrate this into the SF platform and your get a good defense against other players (MSFT, SAP, Oracle).
