Facebook has more users than Microsoft was able to sell copies of Windows 7 to. Not commenting on any other points raised in this thread except to say: you can't compare Facebook users to Microsoft customers, there's a big difference. Edi

I agree that software solutions can be leveraged for more financial success than (say) hardware solutions. I also decided to switch focus (at least temporarily) from what would have been a medical devices startup to software for that reaso

Much of the business knowledge required to launch a successful startup can be acquired in a few months of dedicated studying. So it's no surprise teams of engineers have launched successful businesses, and do so routinely.

Not particularly impressed with the Dart comparisons to JavaScript on http://synonym.dartlang.org/ . I'd rather use CoffeeScript. Besides I'm not about to embark on yet another experiment, as a guinea pig, with Google.

Neat! I was just researching SVG and Canvas for a drawing application. Apparently SVG performance degrades as you increase the number of objects but it can handle changes in scale (zooming in for instance) much better than Canvas can. It

A lot of comments here from people that have never used Evernote and don't really understand it's value proposition to its users. I pay $45 a year for the service. It was a no brainer when I converted from free to paying about 18 months a

Out of curiosity ... if you love implicit returns in principle, then why would you dislike them in this context? I'll guess it's because speed is less of a concern when programming in Ruby. if you don't want to return any value, then jus

I don't think it's right to lump Meteor and Firebase together as you've done here. They are similar and the sets of problems they aim to solve may overlap. But Firebase is a "scalable backend for your web app" and Meteor "is a set of tech

You're missing that the pitch with these things is there is no server code as such. For Firebase, yes that is part of the pitch. Personally the use case for Firebase doesn't really appeal to me. For Meteor, it's the opposite. The fact t

Am I missing something here? Just because you can request data and functionality from the client doesn't mean you'll get said data or functionality. On Meteor the database API is the same on client and server, but that's just an API. A M

Why only 20 stories? I usually scan the first three pages once a day, a snapshot of the top 90 articles. Only about 10% are relevant so I'd rather have more summaries to sift thru to find the ~10 relevant articles for the day.
