I've been looking/waiting for an article like this ever since news of the NSA spying was released (but haven't been looking particularly hard). All of what I've seen previously discussed whether the spying has been legal

Looks interesting. Does my device store keep the service credentials, or do your servers handle all the third party communication? Does every service you integrate with provide a suitably restricted oauth token, or are we trusting you with

From what I've read, I'm in favor of merging the PR. That said, maybe they aren't particularly concerned about subreddits with minimal activity, because by definition not many people use them.

Unless Google is trying to build a business that these children will come to rely on once they get older. At Google's scale, I think it definitely makes sense to put the extra engineering effort in to comply with the law while the kid

Looks like a good candidate for a feature that should be opt-in, depending on how interesting the data you're logging is. Also, it might be interesting to increase the logging verbosity to the remote service for users who've opted

Interesting article, even better pictures. I spent a little time browsing his galleries, and was quite impressed.

Given access to the device, I find it much easier and simpler to install my own Certificate Authority than to decompile and modify the IPA. The CA can also be provided in a .mobileprofile, installable through email. It also validates as a l

I disagree with your mistake #1, and therefore also with the second one. In ARC, dealloc is done eagerly. So, I don't have a problem with unsubscribing in dealloc. I dislike that receiving the notification mutates global state though.

Honestly, I bet they have. Either: 1. The App Store approval process (and app sand boxing) is so good that no malware made it through that needed the kill switch. Or, 2. Malware has made it out to customers, and the kill switch was used. Ho

It's a good idea to take a peek regardless. I found an app that I didn't even know was installed, and certainly hadn't run, which was using data in the background (and deleted it)

T-Mobile's $70 unlimited everything plan for smartphones includes 2.5 GB of tethering. So I'm expecting to use the iPad's free 200 MB when I want to do something quickly on the iPad, but use WiFi or tethering for extended bro

I question why anyone would think winning a generation (or two) would mean the war is over? There's pretty much always been multiple competing consoles, and I don't think Sony and Nintendo are ready to throw in the towel.

I just switched to T-Mobile with my iPhone 5S, largely on principle. My monthly bill won't go down much and my service has gotten worse, but I'm so happy to leave AT&T and support what T-Mobile is doing. The new internationa

Fair enough. Opt-in is way better that opt-out, or worse: not user controllable, and I hoped that was the case when writing my original comment. However, I was doubtful that the ramifications could clearly be explained and understood by mos

It would require UI on the phone to start the setup process. Or an app to download and run. By leveraging Bluetooth LE, every iPhone is always ready to start setup, without the significant battery hit that would have previously required.

The API exposes several range-to-iBeacon constants, in this case they're probably going for touch (aka immediate) so your iPhone knows you're trying to set up the Apple TV, instead of popping the dialog on every phone in range.

I signed up for me, not for a kid. I've had an itch to play with Legos again, but have been resisting the urge to go spend a bunch of money on one of the larger sets for two reasons: price and I don't think I'd get much repeat use out of it
