Making 'mailto' a bad choice, but iOS does allow you to register URL protocol handlers (better choice: 'x-fooapp:'). I believe it's undefined which app is chosen in the case of conflicts.

I totally agree. I wanted to expand a little on basic vs advanced screens, and suitability for IB. At work we had two teams who had very different opinions of IB's usefulness. In our case, it was based on the nature of each application

I don't understand why that makes it "all wrong". I understand the coastline is fractal, but I think the article uses a reasonable method for sampling the continuous coastline and showing possible destinations.

I don't like that solution, because you either don't have the compiler warning for unused/dead code turned on, or you're ignoring it. My preference is definitely for deletion. I suppose in C languages the "better&qu

They're actually changing the way Obj-C APIs are "imported" into Swift. This doesn't rename the method calls, it does more invasive name changes as part of the bridging. So the class UIBezierPath and it's method add

The restriction on scripting says you cannot download and run code, unless it's executed through WebKit or JavascriptCore. So other languages seem to be fine as long as the code to run is bundled with the application.

I think the real solution is for Safari, and apps like it, to allow side-by-side viewing of tabs on devices that have a "large enough" display. There's no reason this needs to be an OS feature, and at least one good reason wh

I started with a free/cheap VNC app, but once I bought Screens I never looked back (and gladly bought the 3.0 update when it came out). My needs are basic, but I've been impressed with their updates and support for iOS features. I

Maybe not what you meant, but I immediately thought of SaaS. Or various companies' policies of open sourcing non-core software. Both of those are along the lines of "I need code to do this thing, but I don't want to be the (s

Replying to myself, because I thought about this a little more. I'm someone who's very excited about Swift. But I'm also interested in learning a variety of languages (and seeing their influences on Swift feeds my excitement)

I think the author should do some more reading about Swift. He complains about a lack of inferred typing and pattern matching, two things which Swift does support. It's more limited than Haskell, but it's there. I also disagree

I think the disparity in valuations is interesting. To Yandex, the code is worth millions. To outsiders, it's not even worth paying £27k, because it's going to be much harder to get a return on that money.

Find a place that's easy to return to, buy +/-1 size, and return the ones that don't work. Bonus points if the extra sizes get you free shipping by inflating the order total above some minimum.

As an iOS developer for years, I have never resorted to a runtime hack, subclass and re-implement, or similar trick to work around a framework bug. Our team rarely shipped a new version of the app concurrent with a .0 release of iOS, so tha
