I'm not a founder here; I just get enjoy this. See also: The people at Reddit. I'm not expecting people to climb over Everest, but there's a difference between people who show up, and people who try to make a difference. I've worked big com

Thanks for posting this again, it's a good reminder. I'm not applying, but I'd love any insight into how the process of reviewing applications has changed in the last few cycles. 1) I know you have Harj on the west-coast, and Alexis on the

I'm not trolling, I have a honest question- What do I get with Zencoder, versus the free Transcoding I get through Softlayer ( http://bit.ly/hmDGtu ) Even if I didn't already have a Softlayer server, it seems like it'd be cheaper to get one

I understand that you're unhappy with Apple, but keep in mind that their original iPhone was HTML apps ONLY. Further, they continue run WebKit as an OSS project, and have worked to be accommodating to other mobile providers. The reason they

Does anyone know what the cost of the Pre-Order is? I don't have an account, so can't easily check this out. I'd worked on tech like this before, but never got acceptable performance, so I'd be curious how well theirs work, if I could get i

There are a lot of other solutions to that. The Ububuntu one I favored in the 8.x era was /etc/iftab, it's a shame they retired it in favor of udev. While udev is more universal, iftab felt elegant and unixy.

I saw a similar comment in the other thread about this. Regardless of whether or not it was noted earlier, it is behavior that many people consider unacceptable. Many App developers are being forced to change their practices, and find the n

I thought it would be fun to do it entirely using unix tools. Sent it off using a recursive bash function, with du, dd, bc, and expr.

The hardest part of this is not posting the version I made in 5 minutes ;) I have no interest in working for Reddit, but as a SysAdmin, I can't resist a challenge.

The nice thing is that QT is now fully OSS- LGPL and GPL versions. This means that development can go on outside of QT/Nokia. The difficult part is that there is no current team to do so, but some of the current devs may be willing to cont

Are you going to release tgrep after the contest is over? That'd be a very useful tool for lots of jumbo-logs, assuming the timestamp handling is anywhere near generic or customizable. If not.. Hell, it'd still be useful for Apache logs. Pl

I'd hate to thinking that our dialog has downgraded to memes and TV show references. Regardless of appropriateness, it doesn't add information or opinion, it's just noise.

There are quite a few for-pay email providers that do a great job. My favorite is Fastmail.fm, which was bought by Opera last year.

This is great news, thank you! Until 1.7.5, the advice seems to have been that ANY single server is vulnerable, always use replication sets to prevent losing data. While I appreciate that point, and we do use ReplSets for every DB, in the r
