I "think" HN has something going in the fact that they don't allow certain, cluttery, ASCII text comment spam like other social destinations (like Reddit, Digg, etc). I'm going to test my hypothesis below. Please excuse me. I'll never do

You indented with spaces instead of tabs!? Just kidding of course, but the QA team might have been on the other side of that holy war. I'm going to have to start using your TSA parallel though... it's so painfully true.

Some people have a lot of time on their hands! Seriously though, this is classic. The source looks nice, and OO as well. Nice job Quentin!

Not sure why you got down voted. I was a bit confused why when I clicked the title of the post, I was looking at an animated gif. I actually watched the entire animation waiting for something to happen.

I have a friend who meticulously puts a small pinch of salt in her coffee before brewing. She says the salt slightly cuts down the acidity, and the flavor comes out a bit more. I'm not sure of the science behind it, but, she makes a damn

Awesome. I love your posts Peter, and have definitely echo'd some of your stuff directly into my .vimrc. Keep up the great work!

I love the "Always add DB Indexes" slide. It's amazing how many projects I run across that completely lack proper indexing. Many lack any indexes at all. It's almost like db:migrate should warn you if you've run a migration that lacked an

The primary thing you need to know about holding your breath is that it becomes painful, and in an emergency, you won't have had any time to warm up.

If you use tiled window managers, and haven't used Xmonad before, I highly recommend it. It's very lightweight, fast, non-buggy, and has a perfect (for me at least) little feature set.

Exactly. Every picture of space shuttle control panels "look" old, but are (most likely) state of the art technology. It must be the beige toned cases that immediately make us think "rickety looking". They are created to work, by NASA...

I'd like to see the homepage show me why I'd use TrackMyCV.com rather than Google Analytics, or any other analytics tools out there with mature interfaces. I like the checkmark list, it really stands out, and I actually read each one! Mor

If I find something interesting, I usually don't even think about posting it, as I'm too lazy to check to see if it's a duplicate or not. Is there a cure for that problem (or my laziness)?

Awesome post Tom. Smaller deployments are pretty straight-forward, and complex deployments are still pretty cookie-cutter. This is a breath of fresh air, as it uncovers a lot of the pain points you were faced with, and the not-so-common s

We use Heroku a lot. It takes very little time to get a complete environment up for an application, and we're able to get production products out to test in the market faster than ever. We ported a Fortune 500 code base onto Heroku as an

I upgraded from Leopard to Snow Leopard, and my computer got slower and slower as time went on. Opening a file in Vim started to take about 10 seconds. Literally "everything" was slow. Had to reformat and start over. Random, but it adds

If you need more background, Oracle "still" hasn't made any press releases as to the fate of MySQL. This should be a very big "con", with a huge question mark next to it. Many core MySQL developers aren't being too optimistic about the fu
