I love these types of posts. There seems to be "a ton" of them lately. I'll say one thing... college is definitely worth it if you're planning on working in the Medical field. I think hospitals only hire people with a formal education now

45RS to take a photo and post it online is a good deal. That buys you lunch (or food for your family).

I think he paid them all $1 for the task, with the added bonus of possibly getting $50 if they win. Why is that not nice? They got paid, and entered a contest. $1 for a HIT on Mechanical Turk is pretty good, especially considering the am

If it was poorly written code, I'd rather see those huge comments just so I knew what was going through the authors head. I think if it's poorly written code with "no" comments, then you have even bigger problems. I want to say I read that

He recommends Princess Mononoke. It's that fact alone that makes me take his review into consideration. If you haven't seen Princess Mononoke, I'd highly recommend it. Actually, I'd recommend all the Studio Ghibli films. My wife and I ha

I've never heard the term "October rain" before, but had to look it up. Quite a few poems with that title it seems. I thought you were referring to the Gun N' Roses song "November Rain" there for a second :)

"Taking into account the learning curve to VLC development, I think it is fair to say that the situation is now critical."... Yikes. I'm a big fan of VLC, and hope to see someone jump on board with them. VLC has an amazing suite of tools u

There was a post on Reddit a few weeks ago, where someone asked "What is something you have learned completely via the internet?". One of the replies was from a guy (Iamnotthatotherguy) who spent 2 hours each night, 4 days a week, dedicated

http://github.com/c9s/Vimana referenced in there looks pretty neat. Installing Vim plugins the normal way is indeed a un-fun process.

Yeah, I actually do that. If I see it's an "h" that I need to go back to, I'll do the "Fh". Sometimes it takes me more than one jump to go back though (if any other "h" are in the way).

Indeed. I just moved from NZ, which is big on salmon farming, to Seattle. The taste of farmed salmon, in my opinion, is repulsive compared to wild salmon. I can only hope we don't have to farm all fish in the future, as I don't think imp

It should be noted that you "must" be selling something through a Shopify store in order to be eligible. Perhaps the title of this post should be "Build a Business using Shopify, win $100,000".

There isn't a problem with slang, until you work with those who do not speak English as their primary language. A lot of aid workers I've spoken to actually practice speaking without slang, as the life/death things they need to explain to

+1 for filter by location. I like this. It's very straight-forward, no fluff.

John, great article. I met you at the first Rails conference in Chicago, I've used your well written CMS, so, I'm expecting addendum's to the related RFC's and an implementation into the major MUA's with all due haste :) Seriously though,

I think it depends on what kind of "browser" user you are. I spend most of my time online, and only use my browser for viewing web pages, and sometimes testing during development. I rarely ever bookmark anything, and if I do, it's a link I

Ah, thank you! Can't believe I haven't been using the -n flag all this time. These flags don't do "exactly" the same thing as Ack, as Ack actually breaks it down by distinct sections, with newlines. It's a bit easier on the eyes.

I've been using Ack for a while, and really like it. It saves a few keystrokes, and gives you a nice (colored) output of the results with line numbers as well: > grep -r unicorn . ./config/unicorn/unicorn_build.rb: logger unicorn_logge

Very cool. If I saw a piece of code in a commit that was bad, is there an easy way to post the updated code in the comment? Maybe also use diffs, gist, etc... and have renditions that can be accepted and auto-merged. Just thinking aloud

Wow, this is fantastic. If you were thinking about getting into electronics, but haven't made the jump... now's your chance! I'm sure you could pick up a starters arduino kit for < $100. I'll see you on the 7th!

Is that even possible at the moment? Most software I've tried just isn't ready for something like that (granted, I haven't tried any of the commercial products). Tesseract is pretty good, but definitely not perfect.
