Having never had to lose weight, I also feel happy talking about this. You are conflating healthy with boring, which is an opinion but not a helpful one; I happen to disagree with it. A more useful discussion revolves around time. In order

Tried Erlang? It's fantastic for everything except number crunching. The VM is basically an OS and makes a lot of sense for embedded devices. I remember reading about some guys programming drones with Erlang a few years ago, they demo&

Concurrent, preemptive socket servers with robust failure handling are "trivial" in Erlang. I'd say 10x productivity would be an understatement compared to other languages. Writing FPU code? 0.1x productivity would be generou

I don't understand this critique of an outdated version of the language. Let's see questions written in C99 using stdint types. Dealing with integer widths is a non-issue. Yes, inc/dec operators take extra care. Structure pac

Uh, what? I thought companies pay the recruiters a percentage of first year salary, or a flat fee, for the successful referral. The employee should not be paying anything.

I've got a Dylos DC1100 Pro and it seems to work great, however I don't have a solid way of verifying the accuracy of its measurements. Supposedly it's one of the most accurate devices available at that price. Empirically it

Agreed, that was the only sentence in the article that gave me pause -- a language having been used extensively for (failed!) attempts at A.I. does not make it a great A.I. language. Maybe we'd have general purpose A.I. by now if we di

Isn't this mental model of time fairly common? If you don't picture the year as a circle or donut, what do you think of when considering the year?

The only slow operations these days are L3 cache misses and transcendental function calls, around 100 cycles each. Optimize for that, not a 1 CPU clock cycle "bit twiddle."

It's the libraries like NumPy, Pandas, SciPy, Matplotlib, SymPy, and so on that make the difference. There's been a ton of work put into developing those Python frameworks for "data science" which don't exist to suc

Someone should hack together C coroutines using Duff's device and throw it up there. It'd win handily, probably around 1ms. You've got around 100 million instructions to use in 1ms on that i7-4770 and no cache to hit, go nuts
