I believe Google Analytics without enhanced tracking is a net benefit. The information on how many users visit and how they use the site is incredibly helpful. The problem with Google Analytics is that Google tracks are lot more than they n

To be fair, I'd blame Apple more than people spreading it here. When I watched the keynote I also immediately thought they block GA.

Thank you so much for this! I submitted it here because I stumbled across it and was really surprised that it hadn't been on HN yet! If we somehow get Go+ in a Jupyter Kernel that would be awesome!

Also, indoor and especially vertical farming can save precious land. Maybe the US has enough land for farming, other countries certainly do not. Rain forests burned to make space for soy or palm oil are proof of that.

I believe for eyesight it's important to change focus, i.e. the distance of the object you're looking to. Not sure if just moving your eyes help but looking up from the screen into the distance is certainly good for the eyes.

The laptop can be hotter if it dissipates more heat to the case. The reason Macbooks reach 100C fast is because they don't give off a lot of heat so that the case doesn't burn your skin.

What I really don't understand is why can Apple out-compete others by that much? Sure they're bigger than Intel but for them, Chip design is only one small part. Have they outspent Intel, Qualcomm, AMD & Co so massively?

Probably 3 chips for different models? I could imagine the iPad Pro chip in the Macbook Air, a mid-range chip and a high performance (the one with 3x performance) for the Macbook Pro. Could make the Macbook Pro the fastest laptop in some be

I thought RISC chips are easier to create in a more power efficient way as the chip design is way easier than for CISC (like x86)? If Apple had been able to create a competitive x86 chip they would've done that. But the instruction set

No, Hetzner charges you <$2/TB. for that price, they'll be happy to route as much traffic as you want. Never heard that they complain in these cases. They have worse peering than AWS but the difference in cost to them is certai

For engineers in Taiwan? Isn't that as likely as South Korean engineers going to North Korea for a good offer?

Matomo has the same, works pretty well. Via plugin they can also track bots to show that separately but they're filtered by default.

It could, and finding the next big thing is extremely profitable. But few companies are able to repeat that process. However, with enough money AMZN could become like Microsoft and successfully build their own products if others have shown

Isn't the idea behind prime shipping that with enough volume, any product in demand should already be stored close to the customer? Their expanding fleet of aircrafts make me doubt that it works that well but who knows, maybe their air

Only servers used for client requests. Dev and integration environments but esp data crunching can be a lot more expensive than serving web requests. And they're hard to keep cheap if you scaling is easy.

Most likely, the vast majority are not in circulation but stored somewhere and are outside the US anyway. A stack of $100 bills is probably the best long-term investment for illegal funds that will be used at some point in the future. It&#x

Not just in Germany. US providers can also be forced to hand over data to be used in cases against others. It's just usually not done with a raid since providers will turn over data when asked.

And the big 3 are more expensive wrt traffic, so I could imagine most nodes are run on smaller providers with cheaper bandwidth.

There are also dedicated servers for a fraction of the price. The choice isn't AWS or own datacenter, there's a lot in between.

Why would written consent be needed from people appearing on pictures with CC-BY licence? Was this just an overreaction or is there any legal risk for Facebook using those pictures without additional consent?

Good point but at all places I've worked, it's more likely to have meetings or other social exchanges after 5pm than before 8am.

I find it counterintuitive. I would've thought that a night owl is more compatible with being a social person. Much of our social exchange happens in the evening (you rarely meet friends before work). Getting up at 5am as an early bird

That's interestingly enough exactly the reason why I like to get up at 4-5am and work before anyone else gets up. It's calm, no distraction (even less so than late at night) and I'm well rested for the night.

Diagnosed with ADHD but not at all a night owl. After a day of procrastination I'd rather go to bed at 6pm and get up at 2am to work than trying to get anything done in the evening. I might be an outlier but I feel the time of day when
