Pay and qualification go a long way to achieve quality in teaching. To get excellent people to become teachers, you need to pay them at least similar amounts as they could get elsewhere and give them some guarantees that their job is safe.

But India and Brazil still don't have great social mobility. Most studies in that area are still pretty young and it's too early to say if that can increase social mobility in the long term.

The US definitely has a lot of untapped potential. And they're not even worst in class. According to the OECD, other countries (e.g. Germany, France) are much worse when it comes to social mobility [1]. [1] http://www.oecd.o

I'd be surprised if that's true. No other broker allows this simply for the reason that Robinhood would otherwise have to pay up if their client can't respond to a margin call.

Truly understanding risk in financial markets is incredibly hard and not intuitive. We can't use our every day intuition to warn us of risks on markets (other than easy money doesn't exist). But I don't think people would app

Same with airlines, hedging oil prices via futures and options is incredibly important for them to be able to price out flights a year in advance. But that doesn't explain why a 20 year old with no income should have access to these in

Do they? I've never experienced that so early. Most mid-range phones are after two years so slow that they can't handle modern apps which is the most common reason people I know buy new phones. Higher spec smartphones tend to last

That's only really relevant for 24/7 operations with considerable load. For home computers and probably even servers with very little load the price of a new CPU won't really offset lower electricity cost.

I once saw German police officers at a police shooting range (it's not public but I knew a participant). Shooting without identifying themselves as police and demanding to drop the weapon led to them failing the test immediately, indep

I don't think that a police officer thinks of accountability in this situation. It's a high stress situation and with no training all you can do is randomly shoot. Extensive training would be the answer.

And zero training. Mandatory weapon training for some US police forces is shockingly short. Other countries train any police officer over months to be able to not only hit targets under stress but also to avoid shooting whenever possible.

But why? Why not wait for a fully equipped team with shields? Sorrounding the house until then prevents anyone from getting out. Unless there's an active shooting, there's no reason not to wait. And with proper protection, police
