Ever went to a National Park or National Forest? There are huge areas without reception (mostly on purpose). Even if you're on camping grounds with facilities and not hiking in the wilderness, having no reception for several days is st

That's probably why their corporate resets take at least 3 business days. For companies, if you send warning emails for 3 business days to all accounts, someone will see it and social engineering is nearly impossible. For individual ac

I like it for locking, especially on large parking lots where not one is bothered by it anyway. Most honks on double locking are short and not as loud as normal honking. I never used it in a residential area but for supermarket parking lots

Are you sure those are matrix LED? They might just be standard LED on an uneven road.

Exactly, just confiscate the car until lights have been fixed. It's much cheaper for the state than jailing people and there's a huge incentive to get the problem fixed quickly.

Are you sure they got triggered by the bridge posts? These systems tend to exclude any non moving objects. I've driven several cars with emergency braking installed and it never reacted to a static object, even if I was headed for it.

Matrix LED are available with most large manufacturers in Europe. You can buy a $30k car equipped with those as well. They always cost extra but are not exclusively sold with high end cars.

Not if this is the only way to protect its citizens. Not saying it's the case here but forcing a company to sale it's business to a local entity in order to proceed offering it on a local market isn't unheard of and can make

I don't think that budget is the problem. You can be very safe without a big budget. It's a lack of priority and management valuing quick development over security.

Not that but you could punish companies severely for the security practices that led to the hack. If those are high enough, it could make better security cheaper than paying randsom.

And yet, these hacks tend to be done with some social engineering and no insider knowledge. Many companies aren't well protected, you don't need an insider to hack them.

Wouldn't a HVDC cable be much more efficient? The distance isn't that big, definitely shorter than Australia to Singapore.

A few years back I read a statistic in the economist that said CCTV coverage in areas reduces crimes at night to the same degree as better lighting. Sure, there is an effect but it can easily be achieved with other methods as well.

Yes, those run on terminal based licenses. Bloomberg still sells those but you need to tell your sells rep exactly why you want one and don't get all features (e.g. IB). They are not very keen on selling those.

I think that's one of the best analogies I've read on this. I believe especially the unknown biases are a problem. Many companies don't know why they hire less diverse, so they either deflect it (e.g. by blaming universities)

To be fair, that's also because with US salaries, you get a rate that's adjusted to a much higher cost of living. If you adjust for that, you can get similar salaries as a programmer in finance or pharma in Germany. I completely a
