How do you know it's "very very fine" if you've never had it? Is that something like the emperor's very fine clothes?

After reading this thread I had to read this [1], which I found helpful in understanding the discussion. I think in some cases it is just more natural to write microservices but at the end of the day if done right the end user won't r

I'm not sure how to respond to this. I can't tell if you read both sentences of my previous comment. My point was that the Bourne reference would have been funny without the objectification of women by the inclusion of the phras

I don't really think there's any call for such an objectification of women. The joke would have been just fine without it.

Unless I'm misreading something, both the text and graphic of that page seem to indicate it's 4.1km/s from low Mars orbit to the surface of Mars. I can't find anywhere saying it's 4.1 from LEO.

That seems like a very interesting and useful application of theories in pre-attentive processing. When everything is aligned to the same orientation then the attribute of orientation may become almost effortless to perceive and cognitive

"The spirals are actually there" - the unbroken spiral is not there, and it is an illusion of one, not multiple. At least to me. I guess if you want to be particular, the circles are broken by the pixels on my monitor, but at 4k

For me the illusion here is no trick. Looking at it I have considerable difficulty not seeing a single unbroken line spiraling out from the center to the perimeter. In reality there are huge disconnects, it is concentric rings and not a c

A lot of the fun in KSP can be finding the line between bad design and good design, and then trying to pilot your way through it (IMHO). I will never forget my first Apollo-style mission and just how many dozens of struts it took to hold t

4k got me to stop complaining about the loss of 16:10. A 4k screen at 16:9 is still not as wide as even two 4:3 monitors side by side -- and you still get the screen real estate of four HD screens in one. Is the aspect ratio my favorite?

It really is amazing how much of a difference that contour style makes - I picked one up for long stretches of coding when I otherwise tend to develop "hunched-over-the-computer" syndrome. The pressure relief on the chest and sho

I think the concept of "flow" as it relates to Kairos is best described by the classic song, "Row, row, row your boat".

I feel the same way you do about how the article explained the concepts. I found what seems like a fuller explanation of a conceptualization of Kairos here [1] - even if it may not be the most transparent: [1] https://link.sprin

The spiral images have tiles that are reflected, not just rotated. You'd otherwise need a third dimension to do another rotation. I think that might be considered two different tiles by the rules laid out in the article.

I think the problem stems also in part from that while the 1900's and 1910's may have been called the 'oughts and 19-tens or 19-teens, those terms aren't extremely common today and "twenty-teens" also sounds st
