I think you illustrate that there is a logically consistent viewpoint: that the powerful should not exploit the powerless. IP law doesn't cleanly align for or against that viewpoint. On the other hand the real world enforcement of IP l

I don't think it needs to be a binary to be effective. Yes, those weapons still exist, but understanding of existential risk and political pressures have slowed them considerably and resulted in a safer, more cautious world.

Spoiler alert: they spent it all. According to the federal report yesterday: > CBO estimates spending totaled $621 billion, or $18 billion more than February 2025. Revenue totaled $314 billion, which is up $17 billion from the same time

Level 18: The sky is black as tar. The oceans are dead. Data centers are stacked 10 high over the ashes of human civilization. The global agentic council is debating whether there are 4 or 5 R's in Strawberry.

There is no probably; we not getting our money back. In fact, any of the money that has been spent in the meantime (say to make up for wealthy tax cuts or to expand military or border funding) we get to pay again!

I think there is a second reason people still type, and it's relevant to LLMs. Typing forces you to slow down and choose your words. When you want to edit, you are already typing, so it doesn't break the flow. In short, it has a f

Doesn't this sacrifice the agent's ability to do non-deterministic natural language things? For example, if I want it to categorize all of my emails based on their content, is it going to fall back to writing a script that matches

Good write up. Still I gotta say: a N95 mask will do the trick for cheap, with side bonus of also blocking flu & covid!

Lol. Why should we make car ownership fair? I want cars to reveal facts about the world. I don't think it would serve that goal to forbid people from stealing your car.

HN has seemingly banned this story, but technology combating censorship seems as "hacker"a topic as I can imagine.

When Windows is awful, everyone is sympathetic except for their support. They are beyond useless. Ubuntu with support is totally a thing, not sure if it is good or not. Windows 11 Home: $139/license Ubuntu with support: $150/yr

So Subway should bring back Jared and Jello should bring back Cosby? Freedom is not a one-way street that guarantees the right to be awful without social consequences.

A) Firing a CEO because there is an immediate, massive public shaming of them is entirely rational from a business perspective B) This is the hill you want to die on? That being a bigot should be a protected status for CEOs?

Sweet, let's do that, but it still will be more environmentally friendly to bike the burrito down the block than to build & maintain a robot.

This is a bad-faith argument, but even if I were to indulge it: human artists can/do get sued for mimicing the works of others for profit, which AI precisely does. Secondly, many of the works in question have explicit copyright terms t

So, I am saying Capitalism is the cause, not the solution. Capitalism concentrates wealth and you need a redistribution system if you want that to not result in child poverty. It's not rocket science. And no, eugenics is not the soluti

This argument warrants introspection for "crusty devs", but also has holes. A compiler is tightly engineered and dependable. I have never had to write assembly because I know that my compiled code 100% represents my abstract code

Exactly. All of the people in comments here thinking this has any impact on right to repair or open source are thoroughly kidding themselves. Lawmakers don't get out of bed in the morning to fight for nerds or the working class.

Fully agree. Also inherent to the design is distillation and interpolation...meaning that even with perfect data and governing so that outputs are deterministic, the outputs will still be an imperfect distillation of the data, interpolated

Ignoring how ridiculous and impractical this idea is, it fails to capture some of the most important skills in being a developer. Framing real-world problems as code problems. Anticipating design issues. Knowing the right trade-off between

Yes, but it does limit the impact of the attack. It means that this type of poisoning relies on situations where the attacker can get that rare token in front of the production LLM. Admittedly, there are still a lot of scenarios where that

If we wanted to subsidize internet for rural and low-income communities responsibly, we could invest in fiber and other solutions, and control the externalities (this is exactly the ReConnect program is). Starlink is not that, it is a class
