“Knowing what’s reasonable” matters. If you have a product that’s being deployed for a new school year, yeah you should be prepared for any one-time load for that time period. Many products don’t have the “school year just started” spikes.

What policy would you recommend for something like Wikipedia? Obviously, you can’t let people post whatever they want.

You can’t “write down the rules” for intelligence. Not for any reasonable definition of “writing”. The medium of writing is not rich enough to express what is needed. This is why GOFAI failed.

$400 billion is being spent on new data centers this year alone (per yesterday's hard fork episode), for better or worse.

I remember like 10 years ago seeing some people getting really excited by CRDTs. I was deeply confused about how the software would magically know what the correct thing to do would be when 2 people made edits that directly conflicted with

It’s partial knowledge. Saying “We don’t know.” feels more wrong to me than “We know.” (emphasis on the periods).

We’ve always been software evolvers. Ideas that have been around for decades, such as “a codebase is a garden”, are even more relevant now.

Don’t confuse security in oneself and confidence with “commanding”. They are not the same thing at all. Women and men both want the former. > women weaponizing sex against men by initially advertising their assets, then withholding them
