Social networks put engagement before everything else and alienate their products. I moved away from Facebook to Instagram when it stopped being about my friends, and did the same when Instagram tried too hard to be TikTok. And I like these

Similar experience here. I thought with about 10 years of experience working on the web, and 5 of those working on large React projects, I could finally be more picky with my next role. I was wrong, I'm struggling more now than as a ju

Counterpoint to your counterpoint, most projects have 3 to 5 different font sizes and using rem units is a negligible effort. As long as some people or accessibility tools change the base font-size then it's worth using them.

Thank you for the read. The idea of an OS supplanted by an AI is fascinating. > "everything must be controlled by me, not by you" Right, the end goal I had in mind for "the everything app" is the control of the softwa

What does the path to success look like for "the everything app"? I can't picture it. So far it looks like they're acting like a FAANG in a "fake it til you make it" move to try to attract money. But not only d

This resonates with me more and more as I age. I like seeing items that have been worn out over time. It's a testament of their sturdiness, their story. A shot in the dark, but a few years back I saw a Twitter thread of someone who wan

Related: Does anyone know why Hacker News is so... rudimentary? It doesn't have pagination and lacks accessibility features. I understand why it's kept simple but for a tech related forum it's suprisingly clunky.

Front end developer here. Been looking for a new role since February, and I have to say it's more difficult than I expected. Compared to 2019, last time I switched jobs, I'm getting fewer interviews and fewer proposals from recrui

Sometimes rules are poorly written, outdated or straight up mistaken. I doubt the original intent of the rule was to disallow GitHub as a collaboration tool since it's the largest coding collaboration tool out there. It's even its

Rules are inherently subject to interpretation. I actually learned the opposite of what you're preaching in school. I struggled to shorten a report to meet requirements. A friend of mine was 10 pages over the limit and went on to win a

It's funny to see. The same thing that's happening with iMessage happened with Blackberry messenger over a decade ago. The major difference is that we now have huge data plans and a handful of great messaging apps to choose from.

I think so too. It makes me wonder why they don't update all their apps to look like W7 or Windows 10 instead of changing their design language with every release. I'm sure there are some technical reasons there, but I suspect it&

I had the same with my previous MBP, I had the machine for ten years and had to purchase two new power bricks along the way. Thankfully the new cables are nicely braided and replaceable without buying an entire new brick.

There's the hypocrisy other posts are mentioning, as well as a general Musk fatigue. But on top of all that, there's the feeling he ruined a place a lot of people liked. It's like if your favourite local restaurant got replac

I realize "incel" is a loaded word but I didn't mean to trash the author. Simply, I feel like he's coming at the issue from the perspective that men-women relationships are transactional. I think that's wrong, and t
