Grandparent's question implies to me he's aware of that, and is wondering how much traffic AdSense drives on top of the DART stuff.

I've heard it said (and experienced myself) that the hiring system at Google is designed to favor false negatives in order to reduce the risk of false positives. I know of plenty of cases where the first (and sometimes even second) trip thr

Bikes aren't always a viable replacement - my parents travel with large (up to 100 pounds) instruments. Also, bikes are frequently a poor idea in inclement weather, making them non-ideal for things like transit to work if you've got a reaso

Practically, that's just not workable long term. Ideally, you want to keep using more or less the same library as everyone else, otherwise versioning becomes even more of a nightmare than it already is.

I've discussed this at some length with a few of the original Subversion implementors. The short version is that they didn't go back and do a slight rethink when they came up with changeset objects, and that causes part of the problem. The

In my experience it doesn't take too long to find a pair of patches that commute which actually let you checkout a broken tree state. It's nice in theory, but in practice the DAG properties of the "mainline" DVCSes are very useful so that y

Git's branches aren't _branches_ per se. They're movable references to heads, and there's no indication of a commit having been done on a branch once it's merged and the ref deleted. If you want that workflow in Mercurial, use bookmarks. So

Many OSS contributors disappear because they're encountering satisfyingly challenging engineering problems as their day job for the first time. It takes a special discipline to actually _use_ 20% time at all (not because of team pressure, j

There's a good contingent internally that haven't drunk the kool-aid, Brad's just the most visible externally. It's a reasonably huge effort just to keep the hubris in check internally, and it doesn't always work out.

Seriously? I'd much rather get a potential repeated contributor who can follow my style than clean it up without asking him to do it. Double for tests: I frequently can't figure out exactly what the best regression test will be and the cont

Yeah, everything I've found thus far it'd make sense to just get a Fit PC and a small LCD - it'd be nice if there was a small frame like this that was hackable (a la the WRT54g) for a small status display.

Anyone know of a frame that works like this that can work without some third-party service for publishing? I'd like to do something like this on information that's under a strict NDA.

I assume you're using histedit, rebase, and/or other tools and not just mq for your hg history munging needs? mq is a great tool, but it's not always the best one. Also, you might find bookmarks useful if you don't use them.

I'd offer up a word of caution though about generator comprehensions. They're much more expensive than list comprehensions in the small cases. In Mercurial, a patch came up to move some listcomps to gencomps, and it was rejected because it

It's a conscious decision. After all, why would you reinvent static content serving when Apache, lighttpd, and nginx all have solved this problem extremely well? It's much lower overhead to just let the purpose-built native-code server do t

I like that idea of using some sort of standard hash and password pairing along with the domain to come up with a password that's site-unique. Is that original, or taken from somewhere? Have you considered using base64 or some other encodin
