It works in Chrome, but most viewers will fix minor corruption in PDFs. qpdf/poppler will tell you if they detect any issues, and they both say it's fine. So I suspect the issue is either your viewer, or the file somehow got corru

I'd be interested if anything open source exists that can do jbig/jpeg2k pdfs (separation + compression) like DjVU. I think archive.org ships PDFs like this, but don't know what they're using to do it (possibly something

This happened to Apple too, while logging API errors (CVE-2014-1317 - in this case it was hex-encoded). Given the frequency that this occurs, I wonder if it'd be a good practice to use a sentinel value for a password during testing and

Any idea what the fat content of cream would have been? I know they’ve got single/double cream in England and light/heavy cream on this side of the pond, but no idea what it actually is if you make it the old fashioned way. (Skim

I was a little disappointed at the write up too. They're cutting the cream with milk (typical in modern recipes) without explanation beyond what sounds like "I tossed the recipe and adopted a modern one". There is no discussi

There was once an iOS app called "Baking with Dorie" that had a similar presentation. It caught my attention because I was interested in novel ways to represent recipes. It's no longer in the app store, but there are a few r

I doubt Dropbox gains much from deduping between customers, but I'd love to see some data to the contrary. Last I knew they weren't sharing that, but most of my data is unique to me and anything I'd want to encrypt is unique

On my older High Sierra box, /usr/X11 is a symlink to /opt/X11. Catalina ships with /usr/X11 symlinked to ../private/var/select/X11. So it should still be possible to get X11 to work.

Back when I lived in Las Vegas, I had heard that the monorail didn't go to the airport because of lobbying/complaints from Taxi companies. If true, I suspect a tunnel would meet a similar fate.

Yeah, I really like EDN for configuration. It is a nice sweet spot between JSON (too much syntactic noise to be human friendly) and YAML (human friendly, but much harder to parse).
