Why not "drill recall" by actually using the language, for example doing advent of code puzzles? This is a lot of money just to have simple functions printed on playing cards.

They cost 50$. The least they should do is teach me a certain amount of Python. Calling a tuple a "creature and a ghost" doesn't tell me what a tuple is.

> "He can reduce an army to a sum of axes he wins" Yeah, it's quite strange. I can't imagine learning Python this way.

How did it displace all other Lisps if a) they're still going string and b) they weren't mainstream in the first place?

You could take a look at Lisp ( https://portacle.com ) or Racket. Both great languages not on the JVM (although Lisp is as well with ABCL instead of SBCL, etc.).

You could have a look at https://adventofcode.com . I've been solving every puzzle so far and it's a fun way to play around with a new language (at least for the first couple of days).

I've solved the first few AoC puzzles with Common Lisp and while I'm not great at it, it's been a pleasure to use precisely due to the interactivity, restarts, introspection of the running program, etc.

For me anything less than maybe 50 is unplayable, it just looks janky.

For many blindspots you can use PyCall ( https://github.com/JuliaPy/PyCall.jl ).

> Clojure isn’t a true Lisp, or well, it is part of the Lisp family, but its extra syntax. Its ability to interface with the JVM makes it easy to leverage the thousands of JVM libraries out there. Doesn't ABCL let you do the same?

I know, many languages are. Why would that directly influence the efficiency of the compiler?

Yeah, the US don't have a history of attacking and destabilising other countries, especially in south america.

I'm solving advent of code puzzles in Julia (first) and Common Lisp (second). So far I like it quite a lot and I'm surprised that even my naive CL code is comparable with Julia when it comes to efficiency (0.004s Julia vs. 0.009 C

Julia, Common Lisp, and maybe Haskell or something like that for me. I use Julia to get the correct solutions in a naive way, then I optimise the approach and compare the efficiency of the languages. It's pretty fun. Yesterdays puzzle

That's exactly the point I bring up in discussions with friends. Amazon provides almost everything in one store - so I don't have to buy at half a dozen shops - combined with great customer service. I can even buy used books from

If you're starting you should use Python and when you have a more solid grasp you can switch to Julia. That's mostly due to the fact that there are much more tutorials and resources for dl in python.

I'm using Julia instead of Python for NLP and it's great. If I need a python library I just use PyCall and so far it has worked flawlessly.
