It's 100% memory safe. In other languages you would use the same (some variation of Object.)

Also, I'll add the obligatory reference to Tallinn and its free transport for all registered residents.

Besides the fact that static linking has a lot of benefits, shared libraries need to be linked too: just this process is called "loading" and the linker is called "loader". Worse, this needs to happen at every executable

It is not so hard to imagine why the source would like to remain anonymous.

No, just that you only want to expand the encoded string into Unicode wide bytes for certain operations and you want to pay that price only on demand. The article also explains how internally this is an optimization the Python interpreter a

I believe Wave was pretty similar to what Slack has become today. It was bringing a lot to the table, but probably too early. Not too early for users to see the value, but for Google to roll out widely enough to make it a proper social netw

Epecially when the job description is exactly the same. Another top comment of this article describes what the tasks of a VP of Engineering are... except that those are really what a Team Lead does daily. Titles are really only of some use

Never understood that either. People rutinely dump shopping carts everywhere unless they can recover a few of their dimes by bringing it back. One cannot say that there were no previous experiences to learn from...

Why? The idea that warnings are errors is pretty important actually. Now, unused imports are mostly harmless (alright, they are not because of init), but they keep unrelated commits clean without needing ad-hoc linting or IDE functionality.

And Google Search. That's actually treated even more specially (compared to GMail and YT) inside Google and it has amazing reliability. It would be interesting to know more details. I bet results are sometimes incomplete, but somehow G

If they steal your unencrypted laptop and you are logged in to your GMail in the browser, they can even access that and reset your password on any account you have. Rightly, this is not part of the threat model for Trello.

I find it funny that Christopher Nolan is shooting a spy movie less than a hundred meters away from this guy's prison cell. Somehow I don't expect the movie to be as interesting as this real story is.

Code reviews can help. For me, all examples uses of try would be great with properly contextualized error messages ("could not open file" as opposed to "could not read file": it is two very different operations after all

Indeed, it's funny that Slack is going IPO these days and they have (in some ways) developed a successful Wave.

GraalVM is nowhere near production-ready nor is supported by a lot of frameworks. Porting existing code is still a big challenge.

Well, depends. I know people going from CTO of a small start-up to individual contributor in a bigger company, probably for money. Titles count a lot inside an organisation, thought.

If it is Universal as you say, it cannot be zero-sum. If it is not zero-sum, what is it? Fueled by debt? Highest income pay more taxes (on income or assets)? In that case it is tecnically not Universal. You can't have money ex-nihilo.

I wonder why the opposite is legal. If users are willing to pay more, Uber/Lyft will not automatically offer more to the drivers. Seems like the free-market works only when it is in favour of the company arbitraging.
