Not the person you asked, but I run Kubuntu with an RTX 4080 and a 4K 144hz display and every single thing works out of the box. Not every game I want to play works with Proton, but close. Gaming performance vs Windows has been indistingu

I've literally never touched a single PC running Windows 11. I've normally been an early adopter-- I even used Windows 8.0 and 8.1 but I just have zero interest in Windows 11. I earn my living on a Mac, do my photography hobby on

We used to own a plug-in hybrid and it would keep track of when you filled up and occasionally force you to consume the gas in the tank. I want to say it was if you hadn't filled up in 6~9 months? Something like that. We always buy e

Have you by chance tried GPU passthrough on TrueNAS Scale? I'm planning a Homelab do-over this summer and one requirement is to have a Windows VM with a dedicated GPU I can use as a Steam host via Parsec. I haven't used TrueNAS s

I tried running a Terraria server on my PowerPC Mac Mini running Void a few years ago with the user mode QEMU trick. I managed to get the server started but it crashed if a client tried to connect.

On Ubuntu apt installs the snap version of an app if one exists. I spent some time trying to figure out a workaround that didn't break my system but couldn't and just admitted defeat. Uninstalling snap removed every web browser a

I've been using Ubuntu since 7.04 and it's _fine_. But ubuntu-advantage, snap, ads in my motd-- It all leaves a bad taste and I'm ready for something new. I'm going to make a switch when I get a new SSD. Pop_OS is #1

I'm in a similar stage as your first paragraph. Macbook for work and a dual boot desktop where Windows only handles games. My linux SSD is on its last legs though, and I've been planning to do a fresh install when I get a new one

Unfortunately I agree-- no repercussions at all. I've been visiting the site basically from the beginning and had no idea Amazon bought them. I guess I missed that one blog post from 2007. It's such a shame.

I have an entry level Nikon paired with their F1.4G 50mm lens. It takes staggeringly good portraits in any conditions. DPReview was of course my primary source of information when choosing equipment. Sad indeed to see them shutter. * htt

I was actually running ESXi on my Mini for a while and successfully installed macOS in a VM on it. The performance was horrendous though, so much of macOS depends on GPU acceleration which I didn't get. I think I've read newer m

If you're in the Apple ecosystem, their continuity camera feature is really slick. It appears to use the 2x lens by default on my iPhone 12 Pro which is a 52mm equivalent (newer iPhones have narrower telephoto). The quality is excell
