I kind of understand it for restaurant menus. Both "real" restaurant and takeway places need to print actual menus and/or flyers, and it's just easier to create a PDF document and upload it to your website than it is to

I've done that in the past. It was fun and nostalgic. Then I had to upgrade the OS to a newer version and things were not fun anymore. At all. And I remembered why VMs and containers are so extremely useful.

I see this for actual service providers that have full control over their business, but if you have resellers of similar size as your own org, don't you end up with the problem that they are about as important for the big provider as y

I don't think SemVer is an appropriate versioning scheme for the Linux kernel due to the extremely large number of subsystems that make up the whole.

I guess at some point optical will be the only way forward. Having more data lines in a serial bus is interesting, as the whole reasoning to go from parallel lines (e.g. Centronics, ATA/SCSI or ISA/PCI buses) to serial (SATA/

I guess that the mechanical part would be achievable by hobbyists, but that the signal aquitistion and processing for modern high capacity LTO drives is nearly as complex as with modern hard drives, which borders on magic :)

IIRC both Windows and TV where modeled after the IBM Common User Access ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IBM_Common_User_Access ) interface style, which was a somewhat big theme in the late 80s and early 90s.
