In fairness, the day the iPad came out, 16 out of the 30 were Apple related. Most of the articles were rubbish, I really can't understand why people would upvote tbem. As somebody who at best doesn't care about Apple, and at worst despises

Well, thank you for responding anyway. I knew I was going to get downvoted for that comment, I just felt I needed to say it. To be honest I have no idea who Fortune are or what any of this is about really, so I was never in a position to co

This has such a linkbait headline. This is some completely uninteresting drama about, at least to me. But the headline is such that my impulse is to click on it. I guess that makes me weak. But why do people upvote shit like this in the fir

I'm not sure I really get what you're saying either. You're asserting everything should be open ("pure morality") and "industry" ("practical morality") are somehow at opposite ends of a spectrum, and that it would be good if we somehow stro

There are a few things I don't like about Arch, but I definitely agree that a rolling release is preferable to six-month-cycles. I've been using Debian testing for a few months now instead of Ubuntu and it's gone pretty smoothly.

With a proper package manager, applications won't break with the ugprade of a shared library, because their dependencies will be such that the new shared library will conflict with the application (or, what usually happens, a new build of t

Sorry, I'm not sure what you mean. What did I implement that already exists? The only method I added to UnboundMethod was origin, and I don't see a method on that page that does that.

I've always thought that alias_method was a pretty silly way to solve the problem of defining a new method in terms of an existing method with the same name. alias_method is definitely "simpler", but I think the way it actually destructivel

Wow, I actually never knew that it was [index, length]. I usually just pass a range as the key when I'm doing stuff like that, so you can do "hello"[2..3] (2 <= i <= 3) or "hello"[2...3] (2 <= i < 3).

I use Quod Libet, which is a great program for listening to and browsing your music collection. It also comes with Ex Falso, which is a separate program that's great for organising your music collection. If I'm ever putting music onto an iP

As I live in Ireland I use google.ie. I often accidentally type maps.google.ie or mail.google.ie, to be greeted with a 404. Seems like a fairly easy problem to fix.

Does this actually implement the equivalent of Adobe's Flash runtime in Javascript? Does it work for all SWFs? If so, is there some sort of magic involved? If this works, how come things like Gnash and swfdec have never been able to achieve

I disagree. I've only recently started programming in C properly, having only programmed before in various dynamic scripting languages, Haskell and Java before. Macros are by far my favourite feature of C.

I just tried calling that number, I got an automated response from "<something... beginning with a?> Solutions" with a pretty generic "press 1 for sales", "press 2 for customer care"-type set of options. That was a bit disappointing

I use Linux exclusively. I did try OS X before (I have an iBook), but I just couldn't get into it. Linux users trying OS X have already commented on problems with window managers etc, so I won't repeat what they've said. The real thing is t
