I agree and did jump ship. This was in Switzerland, by the way.

Sure, in a normal world. But with 2 devs in team, handling a clinical information system in very rapidly changing environment (new features), there is no time to document things in this way.

Not much to explain, you're absolutely right. Hetzner would have been a much wiser choice here, but advocating any cloud provider at this scale probably has its perks too or he wouldn't be burning his money. Then again, perks only

Dear Abhinav2000, since you are proposing to get software (which in some cases requires years of work to develop and huge investments up-front) free of charge, do you mind me asking you if you provide software which you developed (over seve

And yet cannabis is being promoted at unprecedented pace. Almost every new netflix creation has cannabis promotion, see the movie “don’t look up”. Who knows best, scientists or netflix? :)

Thank you for the clarification. I too find this interesting, especially because it runs on win 3.x. The floppy part is a bit unorthodox, but cool nonetheless!

Designers strike again. They have what, two applications open? One for illustrator, another is the browser. Maybe one more for outlook. Of course they don’t see the need for any of this crucial functionality.

If you really checked my comment history, you’d see that I actually gave a warm compliment just a few days ago. I apprecite the work of others, but not necessarily when the work is trivial and keeps popping up on HN quite often.

What is there to talk about really? Hook up a USB floppy drive to an IIS machine, select the floppy as the source for the site and voila. Takes 1 minute to set up if you have a USB floppy drive hanging around.

Beautiful. I also checked the archives on that blog and every article is a work of art. I would love to work with this dev!

This was very common when working with teams from India. I see this merely as a cultural difference, a courtesy. You don't start talking until pleasantries have been exchanged. But I may be wrong, feel free to chime in.

Retirement. I invest excess into sp500 and bonds and plan to retire early. Comp is a big factor here.

In my case I did not look for another job. I was scouted (ex boss recommendation) and took the offer. I bet there are many others like me - frequently getting offers.

In my case more money is #1 reason for leaving. My job is just that - a job. I give my all while I’m working, and I expect to be compensated accordingly. I have a family already, I don’t look for another one at work. I keep it professional

Similar thing with me. Starting at a new job in February. Left because the title did not reflect my work. There was not much room for negotiation and I had a scouted offer on the table with better comp and more interesting work.

I can’t quite put my finger on it, but I’d appreciate something along the lines of who they are and why the reader should invest their time to read on.

I stopped reading because there was no background to anything. I landed there because I saw it on HN, but I had no idea what was going on. After a few paragraphs, I lost interest.

Who are they and why are they using this old laptop? I wasn’t able to find anything in the article that mentions this.

Thank you for the tip! Yes, the links are randomly generated and quite difficult to guess/bruteforce. I will update the wording accordingly.

Congrats! If someone told me that there are people willing to pay for images generated by crawling a website (not even rendered, just opengraph/metadata), I’d say they were pulling my leg.
