If you had seen lots of resumes and references, then interacted with those people later, you'd distrust resumes and references too.

I'm fully aware that it's a figure of speech. I'm calling out the hyperbole because it doesn't enlighten, and lacks self-reflection. A much more useful comment would have been to describe how crucial $concept is to his p

It might be useful, but I suspect it will still be a lot of work to expand the translator to be generally applicable. It's a fair amount of work just to get such a translator to operate on a specific code base.

60k of very subtle, complex, intertwined C code is actually quite a lot. Porting the runtime to Go is also on the drawing board, but later. Right now the compiler complexity makes it harder to work on, hence porting it first is going to pay

That sounds like a variation on rsc's 3rd approach (but with runtime code generation instead of boxing) with the same drawback: slower execution. It also makes certain kinds of debugging harder (how do you map a PC that's pointing

Yes, "internal representation" has a specific meaning. If you had said "standard representation" or something then I would have agreed with you.

That has nothing to do with "a string's internal representation". That is just how a range loop is defined/implemented.

No, read the article more carefully. A Go string's internal representation is a sequence of bytes. There's nothing UTF-8 about it.

Go doesn't have the concept of an immutable array/slice. It's been proposed (largely to bridge the divide between string and []byte), but it doesn't fit quite right with the rest of the language.

The string type is immutable, which is the main reason for using it instead of []byte.

I think that's because Go is reasonably good for, say, 90% of situations, and if you're in the 10% where it is not a good fit then you already know that and you know better than to try using Go in that situation, and thus few peop

Google uses stack ranking only for calibration across the company. There's nothing like "bottom 10% get fired", and in a team of high performers it's perfectly okay for everyone to get a great performance review, so ther

If you're including external tools, there's a bunch of tools that do it for Go too, such as rx ( http://godoc.org/kylelemons.net/go/rx ).

His reference to a lack of dependency issues is a runtime aspect: A Python program requires the right Python interpreter and all the right Python modules to be set up correctly on the target system. For Go, you can build a single binary in

You need to implement that part yourself. Look in peers.go. It'll be dependent on how you discover peers in general.

"has to" is a bit strong. The standard assumption is that pointer arguments should be set (or the function is documented otherwise), and the responsibility is left with the caller. It just bubbles out from there.

You can if you want, and some folk do, but that's really outside the scope of the language itself and much more about your project management, revision control, and so on.

The x-axis data is not numerically ordered, so there's no good reason to keep it oriented that way.
