When I go down the list I can only think of a few YC startups that have done well by following these ideas (dropbox, heroku). The leaders in the categories listed are not YC companies, and the big hits that YC did have were in categories n

If you're not working on something similar to what the employer is working on, it's not a problem. Depends on the contract you sign. A lot of employers demand their employees automatically sign over all invention rights (past and

I find the idea of bringing a personal project into the office and having a committee decide whether I own it or not, to be rather distasteful. The obvious course of action is for developers to universally stop signing over their rights wil

If you want to use a war analogy, Google isn't really fighting a 6 front war at all. They're sitting comfortably in their search advertising castle, and playing guerrilla warfare everywhere else. Google is attacking Apple/Facebook/Microsof

I see no reason why you couldn't use canvas to generate icons as data URI's. Each icon could then be represented as a set of canvas drawing instructions, that could be pre-rendered, scaled for different devices/uses, cached, etc. I think

Ya it looks like the "augmented reality" part was faked. The angle of the video never quite matched up with where he was holding it either. In any case it's still a nice proof of concept.

You're comparing apples to oranges. New programming languages are great, but it's a very different problem domain than web UI interfaces.

You can experiment with box2djs separately at https://github.com/HBehrens/box2d.js There are a few other javascript ports of box2d floating around, but this one seems the newest. It's fun stuff, and I can get well over 100 fps in a 640x4

I've always thought the Volt sounded way over-engineered. Why bother with a fancy hybrid engine rather than concentrating on making a lightweight, affordable all-electric car? The simple approach is always going to win. Zenncars.com was

Also whenever a job post says "competitive salary" that can usually be interpreted as saying "average salary". Even jobs with below average salaries use that bullet point.

What if Ray Kurzweil is right, and by the 2050's transhumanist technologies become sufficient for us to live healthy lives indefinitely? Having the technology to live forever won't help you if you die of a heart attack before it exists.

I was thinking the same. Even with all the bad press, Groupon will still do their IPO, the underwriters and VC's will still unload their shares at a hefty profit. The implosion won't happen until after the smart money is out.
