May I ask how you received a visa to stay there? I looked into Thailand but axed the idea when I could only get a 30-day visitor visa. Whereas Costa Rica lets you stay for 3 months before you need to cross the border to extend your visitor

I quit my day job last year and began my ISV/web startup after I calculated I could live very comfortably in Costa Rica on $20,000 per year. I haven't made a full time move there quite yet though, I go there for the winter to surf and code

The HTML5 canvas and audio API's are fairly simple and easy to coordinate. You probably do not need a library unless you require complex collision detection, or physics math.

The first thing you do is buy each of them a design patterns book and start forcing them to both read, and use eachother's code. When bugs appear, don't make the author fix the bug, make one of the other guys fix it. That'll probably moti

I used to do stuff like that, until I found it was a lot easier just to work directly out of my Dropbox directory. It's tough to argue with real-time offsite backups.

The coming dominance of mobile/tablet oriented web apps running in the cloud with persistent offline operation is what is going to keep RIM (and others) from needing a better OS. Android and iPhone only have a temporary advantage in the mo

The problem with JSON is that isn't very useful by itself because you always have to encode and decode it, and then analyze the structure to do something with the data. It works better as part of a protocol, not as a native data format. If

It is trivial for a multinational corporation to register company.co.kr and company.co.us. If they don't really want to run separate websites one can redirect to the other.

There of course would be a period of migration. Ebay would tell ICANN redirct ebay.com to ebay.co.us indefinitely. And maybe at some point in the future .com is entirely eliminated.

The problem really only exists for the .com TLD. What really needs to happen is to deprecate .com entirely. ICANN should stop registering them, and all existing .com's should be migrated, or re-registered in their country of origin (.co.u

HTML5 basically takes HTML4 and adds 3 tags: audio, video, canvas. These solve very specific issues, sound, movies, and drawing. HTML5 does not address some larger scoped problems related to HTML -- the biggest being that HTML sucks. It

Everyone's so hyped up about HTML5. And yet I am slowly coming to the realization that the W3C has made a very, very, grave error in not going ahead with XHTML2.

That's why you don't rely on free third party API's. I'm seriously thinking of starting a Freebase alternative, but where you can pay to replicate and run your own copy of the database. Anybody think this would catch on?

Why is taking so long for 1.0.1 to be released? On a side note, they clearly jumped the version number to "1.0" way too soon. It is nowhere near production-worthy software (which is implied by a 1.0 release).

Oracle is sending a very clear message every programmer, young and old. "If you use Java to make something valuable, we're gonna sue the crap out of you". This will have long term consequences for Oracle.
