Maybe the US should aim a little lower, and first try to eliminate the 2-party system. The system is designed to be dysfunctional.

I've kind of been wondering if it would be possible to have some sort of mini-stock exchange for startup companies. Like the Toronto Venture Exchange, but specifically for startup tech companies. Just completely eliminate the VC/angel seed

Well I know what I'm gonna apply with next year... Google spreadsheets absolutely suck for this type of collaboration.

Google is going to have a really tough time marketing this. It's a bold idea, which, one way or another, is probably the correct direction for personal computing. But the timing is just too soon. And I doubt people are willing to hand a g

Employees would typically only be given options, not actual stock. I might be wrong, but I think they can give as many options as they want. And as anyone who has been granted options knows, options usually end up being worthless.

For that matter, why not make a site for attractive people who have horrifically ugly personalities. There's far more of them.

There should be a separate post for remote/freelance jobs. All the jobs posted here are in the US, and I'm sure there's plenty of talented foreigners lurking on HN.

Ugh, I hate arguing grammar. Technically what I said was not ambiguous. If you quote the first sentence alone, it could only be considered ambiguous if you consider "dying internet fad" as a favorable bet. My 2nd sentence confirms my inten

If we compare whether Facebook or Google can be more easily replaced I could argue that Google has a higher chance of being replaced because some startup can come along and build a better search engine for less than 1% of what it cost Googl

The bottom line is this - if you were to place a bet (as in betting your career) on which company will be dominant 20 years from now and which will become yet another dying Internet fad, I'd bet in favor of Facebook. Absolutely everyone ov

Microsoft is really the last company anybody should be looking for guidance on Internet technologies. Their strategy has historically been to make web development as difficult as possible, so as to delay the eventual replacement of the PC

I hope Microsoft keeps doing exactly what they're doing. Microsoft's bad reputation is very much deserved. The web, and the world, is going to be a lot better off without this company. Windows, MS Office, and Internet Explorer are example

I ran some rough numbers once. I couldn't find exact numbers but estimated for about $1.5 million worth of ARM-based plug servers, you would have close to enough raw CPU power (in terms of FLOPS) compete with the 2003-version of Google.

There's a decent chance they'd buy ARM Holdings ($8.4B). They could bring the processor design in-house. ARM chips already power all the IOS devices and could also power their server farms. They could also be planning for iOS/ARM systems
