Noah, why are you even replying to this guy? He is obviously a troll, and you won't be able to "explain" anything to him. Personally, I enjoy ignoring his types in online debates. Bait them, and ignore them - priceless.

I've always wondered if it's possible to use Rust' ownership chains to attribute memory usage? I.e. calculate total bytes retained by an object?

"Why Are So Few Dental Hygienists Are Men?" "A combination of a high barrier to entry and outdated attitudes keep men out of a profession where they could thrive." I hope to see something like this on Wired someday.

People are weak - and if they see more examples that masks are not necessary, they'll follow. So I'm trying to not wear mask unless absolutely necessary, but it's hard, the pressure is real. Not to mention kids - masked kids

I'm interested in "employee asked if the company could revisit Singer’s remarks" - was there a point, or did that employee just said literally that?

Maybe that was in line with the "research"? I think this can be an interesting topic in itself, how those trigger words and victim playing can get you through code reviews faster. It's certainly true in my company...

Yeah? How about the other way around - I'll start using 'master' more in my code from now on. No more 'primary' things, only 'master'. What do we have here, serverUrl? How about masterUrl? I'm less th

I wonder how Linux with that compares to XNU (iOS)? For some reason (maybe because I work with Android) I always thought that XNU is better at memory management (fewer low memory kills, better paging, etc.).

I wish headlines like this also included N, the number of people that considered the issue controversial. As I understand in this case the N is 1? And so "Godot maintainer removes controversial (to N=1) satirical piece from documentati

Hmm, LiveData is pretty straightforward class, over the years I think I memorized its implementation. I'm curious what's the issue is?

Is there any metric to prove that this proposal works? I mean, you can impose all sorts of rules and whatnot, but it's all [dust] until it improves a metric that the company cares about (e.g. review time, # of bugs, etc.).

To paraphrase a thing that I read in a book about Tao: "How can you not be romantic about making iron hooks?" And I fully agree. You can find beauty and elegance in anything, including programming (and I certainly do).

This analogy is a bit careless. You can't just throw BLM around, or we'll end up with stuff like: "So yeah, this code is bad and I'm the only one who thinks so, but not caring about my opinion is like not caring about op

I think it's clear that humankind won't be able to stop/reverse this process. So, are there any realistic state-wide plans to prepare for the worst? Like, move cities away from shores, prepare for certain regions to become ve

I have a stutter too. What is interesting, is that I stutter less when speaking English than when I'm speaking Russian (my first language). I think party it has something to do with different rhythm structure of English.
