Admittedly I jumped straight to the comments on this one, but I have to say that I think there is a good financial, logistical incentive for following your "passion" in the modern world, because often the sort of job that you'

I wouldn't want to label any generation's members in a blanket judgement (I prefer to have faith in everyone to keep the world turning). Including the "hippies" -- many of them knew what went wrong perfectly well and kne

Some personal anecdata for you: 1) Q4 2015 MBP, top of the line - kernel thread crash on suspend, causing it to wake back up. Semi-random, kinda interesting except when it woke up in my bag and seemed to almost catch on fire ... repeatedly.

Also, at the OS level, there are entire projects built around just understanding the dependencies in the Operating System and applying minimalism to try and get to a state of (relatively) simple, known dependencies. One of my favorites is R

I mostly jumped to the bottom of the bug discussion thread there, but there doesn't seem to be much opposition to adding this, just comments deferring this to other releases. Are they just requesting that patch submitters do some extra

This is fascinating (to a non-crypto nerd such as myself). It would be nice to collect some code that will fail all the unit tests to study why I think as well as reading the commentary. Also if theres a way to use this to audit legacy Ja

You're welcome! I definitely think this is an internal pathing issue relative to the ISO -- and I have grappled with this same stuff before many times and gone mad several times over so I get it :) I just found a nice reference that I

[Edit 2] where you put grub/grub.cfg in the above partition layout is also up to you. It could reside on the EFI parition. Its all about how you lay it out in the host system when putting this disk together and then how you run grub-in

Ok so one immediate point that I notice here is that if you look closely at this grub configuration, you'll see that the EFI boot Kernel and initrd are not loaded from an EFI partition, but rather taken from the ISO itself: > loop

One could argue that the Java ecosystem was already pretty fragmented and weird anyway: Java Card, Java in the browser, all the many versions of the JVM on every platform, and open source JVM "forks"... right?

I actually believe the PSTN is so ingrained in international networks that it will be around for another 50 years, minimum. Think SS7 and the fact that anything that touches PSTN relies on a legacy implementation at some point (probably al

The point isn't the just the payment mechanism but the network it connects back to plus the payment mechanism. [edit] to clarify: if vendors actually accepted (something like) bitcoin at restaurants or wherever, this would cut out

Ok so what I'm reading is that: 1) you can get EFI to load grub but 2) actually loading the live system image isn't working So given those assumptions my next question is: Is the kernel and initramfs loading? If you're not

Ok, I would certainly agree then that I ought to know about that (for Python 2.x). And here's the thing: despite my rant, given that explanation, I'm going to have to say I respect that as a Python (2.x) interview question. But th

Yeah I'm not in love with Java, but let's also not forget that Google has successfully extracted Java from Oracle's hands at this point, to a billion-or-so installation extent.
