Same here. I'm enjoying the class as well. However, I used to do reverse engineering, so the code gen was not that difficult. I enjoyed the part of the course that covered optimization. It was really interesting to get the prof's

The Newton had a lot of great tech. Thx for posting. I really liked their clever hardware protection system that was done in a single address space style.

Thanks for that link. I too find the orthodoxy of infinity today a bit hard to take.

Funny thing is... they stopped using infinitesimals when teaching calculus in most US math courses. I think they should be brought back into the curriculum.

With this and Polymer, I think the whole idea of software components might actually happen. I cannot wait for this to happen. Having this stuff would be great! Thanks to the people behind HTML5 for kicking off the innovation. Thanks to the

I'm going to take a stab at interpreting what this article is about. First, the missing background: djb likes unix. the unix philosophy is to compose small programs together to solve problems. djb's own programs illustrate this re

tl;dr - this is about 'leaky abstractions' http://www.joelonsoftware.com/articles/LeakyAbstractions.htm... this was written about by Joel in 2002. This article probably dates before that, but is last modified

not to argue, but you can open an fd for reads and writes on unix on a normal file. A socket is not logically 2 file descriptors.

Very cool link. Stack architectures faded a while ago, but I think most of that was just the huge divide in cpu to memory performance. I think there is a niche in parallelism for simpler, stack based CPU again.

I wish I could upvote this more. I recently checked out a few online courses on Signal Processing and EE. (Not the MIT ones, though). Khan Academy is good too, but doesn't cover advanced topics like this. Nothing touches this. When I see th

I understand monetizing themes for django projects, but since this is for the admin panel, why not just donate it back to the project? Open source projects live by the contributions from the community.

The whole hi/low ports as security was always bogus. From day one. Ask those who implemented it from that era, and they will now agree. If someone had a shell account on a machine, they could have 'root'. If they had root, they can bind low

I think people do detect cache issues. Considering the fact that an access to DRAM is like ~150 or more cycles slower... your programs if written even normally may starve for RAM. Also, people sometimes people confuse TLB flushing with over

Hi, good perspective. I've used Scala as well. Twitter held a meetup with Martin O back in 2007. At the time we started using it, the actor code was not ready for production. I think there is a lot of great activity in that space. I'm sure
