It's pretty misleading that all the headlines are just calling this "vaping-related" when the actual cause is probably bad THC oil. How many people are going to stop vaping nicotine and go back to cigarettes after hearing abo

Because the alternative is to waste the time of the person you're talking to while they sit there waiting for your follow up. You're already interrupting them; no need to make it worse.

This is my biggest IM pet peeve. When someone separates their "hello" from their actual question, my attention is broken for 30 seconds to 5 minutes for absolutely no reason whatsoever until they send it.

Is that a general trend or just location-specific? I've heard about homelessness being a big issue in SF and Seattle but I live in a big city (NYC) and I haven't seen anything like that.

This is my first time learning that AI-graded essays are a thing. Am I the only one who thinks that's insane? I feel like you'd probably have to have an AGI to meaningfully evaluate an essay.

I agree in general, but it's not like there was any chance of having a meaningful conversation with people who are actual paid shills.

Amazon's paid shill program is incredibly creepy and I have no idea how anyone thought it was a good idea, but it seems kind of mean to dunk on them like this. Either (a) they actually like their job and you're being a jerk or (b)

I get it, but I still prefer CDs because the sound quality is better, I can losslessly rip them, and they don't break. It's a little frustrating to me when the only physical version of an album is a cassette tape.

Sure, but there's a huge difficulty range between Fizzbuzz and that "come up with a dynamic programming algorithm on the spot" crap that Google and friends like to do. (And that range includes problems that are actually relev

I love the idea of a phone that isn't built by Apple or a spyware company, but I'd be worried about software stability and support. GNU/Linux on the desktop has always been flaky for me, and flakiness is not an acceptable cha

The unspoken prerequisite to all of the advice here is to have a job where you can spend a nontrivial amount of time doing things that feel deeply meaningful to you. I doubt most people have that.

There are enough fonts. It wouldn't be a great loss for humanity if we didn't get as many new fonts because of decreased profit margins in the font design industry.

Lots of people have an issue buying expensive Magic decks and respond by choosing not to play competitive Magic. Drafting isn't everyone's thing and pauper is both super restrictive and harder to find events for.

Responding to complaints about RNG by saying "actually our data shows that it's fair" is totally missing the point. People don't like that the game feels too luck-based, whether or not it actually is.

Pretty much all paid music downloads are DRM-free now. There is usually a distributor like Bandcamp that takes a cut, but that's because most artists aren't going to host their own payment system and file servers.
