We take it to court, and if it doesn't fit within the boundaries of law, a judge has two options: toss out the case, or attempt to expand the boundaries of law by interpreting existing law in a new way. If the former, we are at an impasse,

Well, let's say I'm offended by your username. I'm so offended that I feel the proper punishment should be paying reparations of no less than $1M to the charity of my choice. Is it my offense taken by your username a fair offense? What stan

You seem to believe that offense is subjective to the individual. Should we then be responsible for everything we do that offends others? What level of recourse should they have for being offended? If we think that punitive action is approp

First, thanks for this post, which helped bring me down from righteous indignation to just righteous anger. However, I'd like to have a few things clarified. I'm not worried about IP anymore, or RIAA influence on this, but I am concerned wi

This assumes people are intelligent enough to know what they actually want. Not being mean, just a sad truth about the state of culture right now.

I have to agree. Full of a lot of conjecture and giant leaps without much positive evidence. Unfortunately, stuff like this is all the rage even in scientific literature these days, especially in the realm of evolutionary biology. Many simi

This is wildly off topic, but I'm genuinely curious... What is with the profile pictures of people looking up and to the right, with usually a circular gradient solid color background? I see it a lot in the SV/tech industry, and am wonderin

It most likely derives from "master/slave" relationships like client/server. "Slave" is chosen since makes adolescent boys feel like they have power. The author is merely using the community's terminology.

I'm not convinced. WWI was the debut of wartime aircraft, and he would have been well aware of the role airplanes had in shifting the power of that war. They were mainly used for reconnaissance and some light bombing, but it was widely publ

The problem is not that there shouldn't be parties, but rather there should be LOTS of parties, all with an equal say and equal potential to gain office. Power brokering should happen not by party, but by the issues. There should be no majo

Well, that remains to be seen. Looking at both websites, it's difficult to tell what they are talking about. Flat-UI doesn't seem to have any assets that mirror anything on LayerVault's. They need to be more specific.

Very, very nice. I manage my church's website, but I don't have the time to constantly upgrade Drupal (or WP), and it looks bad. My only thing is that I have a small church, and while $25/mo seems reasonable to me, I doubt my church would g

Cue the standing desk weirdos... Get something <$100 that doesn't have armrests and doesn't lean back (or else it locks such a function solidly). It will force you to sit correctly.
