I wonder how much of the increased schedule times are due to baggage fees? Here is my theory: In 2008, airlines began charging for checked bags[1]. This was done both for the immediate revenue increase, and also to prod flyers into airlin

What hosts support Gen6? AFAIK, Gen5 is the most recent standard that's actually deployed. Eg, what can you plug a CX8 into that will link up at Gen6?

I often say "hey Siri, ask ChatGpt <x>" when I'm hands free and want a better answer than siri throwing up some web pages and saying "i found this on the web for <x>". This tends to give far better answe

Most hardware is fairly generic for tunneled protocols, and tx descriptors can take things like "inner l4 header offset/len" and "outer l4 header offset/len" Generic support for tunneled TCP is far more doable

I really hate the title of that article. Of COURSE rate and price drops would improve affordability. What they are trying to says is that forecasted rate and price drops won't help. And I tend to wonder if they are correct in te

The primary advantage of QUIC for things like congestion control is that companies like Google are free to innovate both sides of the protocol stack (server in prod, client in chrome) simultaneously. I believe that QUIC uses BBR for conges

Where I see the real value of something like this is time-wasting AI agents at monopolies like CVS Pharmacy. These seem designed to be as slow and frustrating as possible & I'm sure the goal is to get you to give up before you can

I've been there, working on FreeBSD performance since 2015. I wouldn't say "many" of the early folks. From memory, I think it was more like 2. Granted, 2 of the earliest. More of the early folks were ex Level3.

I do miss them being one of the biggest FreeBSD contributors. For a long time in the late 90s / early 2000s Yahoo was to FreeBSD what Netflix is now (and maybe a bit more). They used to host a lot of the FreeBSD build/test infr

Pure electrics also work when the screen crashes. My Tesla behaves almost exactly as you describe. When the screen crashes / reboots, you loose all displays, all sound, signals, etc. But the car still drives.

The first *nix workstation I ever sat in front of (at an undergrad CS lab in the early 90s) was a DECStation 2100 with a MIPS R2000.. Sadly they were replaced by Sparcs when Sun made an exclusive deal with our University.

I'm just the opposite. I'm a vegan who loves & misses the taste of meat. Without Beyond (and Impossible), it would have been way harder for me to have become vegan. I think black bean burgers are disgusting. When picking a

I'd naively assume that the stress of launch (vibration, G-forces) would trigger failures in hardware that had been working on the ground. So I'd expect to see a large-ish number of failures on initial bringup in space.
