I thought M1 silicon could run amd64/x86_64 efficiently via Rosetta, due to changing the memory ordering model to an x86 one. I was hoping that Parallels could somehow take advantage of that.

Most of our customizations and modifications have been upstreamed. We get similar performance on production 100g and 200g boxes when running the upstream kernel. I see no reason I shouldn't be able to hit 380Gb/s on a single-so

I came back to FreeBSD when I started at Netflix. Given my "once burned, twice shy" feelings about the ports system, I came back only because FreeBSD has ZFS boot environments, which makes rolling back from a bad update trivial.

Comparing to Linux? No. There are no public numbers. However, I'm up to serving 709Gb/s of TLS encrypted traffic to from a single host to real Netflix customers with FreeBSD.

It depends on your workload. For static content, especially kTLS encrypted static content, FreeBSD is quite a bit better.

I'm a FreeBSD desktop users since 2015 (and 1998->2007 before that), having used Ubuntu LTS as a desktop 2007->2015. What I miss most from Linux is apt/dpkg. I think Ubuntu (debian really) does a fantastic job of packages.

I agree, the app is horrifically bad. Its hard to find the included content, it takes a long time for it to bring up the description of the video, the play delay is terrible, and it has smooth fast forward/rewind which I personally d

That's interesting. I wonder if most of the unvaccinated population has already been infected with an older variant of covid-19, and if that previous infection provides a more effective immune response than the vaccine for omicron?

I wonder how under-reported mild breakthrough cases are, due to self testing? I'm fully vaccinated and boosted, and I had what I suspect is Omicron about 10 days ago. I had a mild fever (approaching, but not reaching 101), a sore thro

I think a lot of this depends on the typical severity of Omicron (and future variants). I'm vaccinated and boosted. I wear a mask in public. I don't go out much. I do travel fairly regularly (fly maybe 1-2x per month). I finall
