IPv6 Extension headers are a nightmare. There are likely lots of bugs lurking in lots of places due to extension headers stacked in unusual ways. A lot of hardware and drivers simply give up on packets with more than a single extension he

Wouldn't leaving it in the ground to be tapped in a time of war be a lot simpler?

For national security, US reserves should be kept in the ground as long as possible in case of true emergencies I think this is the sort of argument that a lot of right wing folks would buy into. This needs to get into the national debat

Yes, I think the bonus factor over base salary is 25% or more for L7, so I'd expect salary + bonus to be $900k. The total comp would likely well over $1M, since GSUs (Google's version of RSUs) were not even mentioned.

I have the opposite problem, especially in California. I'll be staying in a hotel and need cutlery, but even though I've checked the box, I won't receive any with my order.

No, fast retransmit basically does what it says -- retransmits things quicker. However, it is orthogonal to what the congestion control (CC) algorithm decides to do with the send window in the face of loss. Older CC like Reno halves the s

Google makes heavy use of userspace networking. I was there roughly a decade ago. At least at that time, a major factor is the choice of userspace over kernel networking was time to deployment. Services like the ones described above wer

The difference is that BBR does not use loss as a signal of congestion. Most TCP stacks will cut their send windows in half (or otherwise greatly reduce them) at the first sign of loss. So if you're on a lossy VPN, or sending a huge

I guess the question is how many of them were bought with ARMs, and when do those ARMs adjust?

The market needs inventory for prices to adjust. With the "high" interest rates (really more like historically normal), home owners with a 3% mortgage don't want to sell, since they'll be trading their 3% loan for a 7%

I'm hoping the recent trend towards more active, powerful unions that we're starting to see now will reverse the wage trends. The problem is that the very low interest rates we've had over the last decade are just not sustain

Please don't accuse me of being a boomer, but I view interest rates as finally getting back to normal. When I bought my first house in the early 2000s, mortgage rates were in the 6-7% range. I remember my parents had a 13% mortgage in

If you read the darwin-kernel mailing list archives from 10-15 years ago, some of the most ignorant questions were from AV vendors. (like: "why does my system deadlock when I stop the entire kernel waiting for a userspace helper ..&quo

I was thinking the same thing, then I realized they don't even need this. They could simply grab the addresses via /proc/kallsysms and poke them into the driver using a custom helper to load the kernel module.

I'm typing this using the proprietary Nvidia drivers on FreeBSD right now.. They are SO much easier to deal with than the "native" AMD and Intel drivers that require tens of thousands of lines of linux shim code.
