My thought of what "emergent behavior" is, isn't that it is necessarily "unintended", but rather that it isn't really present in the small scale stuff, and isn't an obvious consequence of the small scale s

What do you mean by “actually reason”? And, presumably you wouldn’t have the model generate the graph directly, but instead have it generate code which generates the graph. I’m not sure what they had in mind for the “unusual traffic” bit.

I do think I have a soul, and I don’t think that AGI is impossible. So, I really don’t get why people think AGI is impossible. I mean, I have hope that it won’t ever happen, but not because I suspect it is impossible.

Meaningless seems like an overstatement. My understanding is that the big five is generally better, and has e.g. better test-retest consistency, but Myers-Briggs still has e.g. some correlations with the Big Five, and so it must measure som

I don’t think the “Chinese Room” is supposed to necessarily be pure lookup. The point is that the person is the only one doing stuff, and they don’t understand Chinese, and so there’s nothing understanding Chinese. This doesn’t at all use t

Right, or.. Ok, uh, I don’t think one has to really reject empiricism to reject scientific materialism? Or, err, by “empiricism” do you mean like, “support for doing experiments, and keeping track of the results and what models work good to

For any set S which is non-empty, there is an element x of that set. For any set S and any x, the set S * {x} is a function which sends every element of S to x. Therefore, for every non-empty set S, there is a function with domain S, and ra
