I prefer to think of and use my RPis as home network appliances, things that can run hassle-free. Examples from my house are: Pihole - Adblock for all wifi devices Shairport - audio airplay target Plex - media server My family members and I

I don't work with mapping so it's all new to me, but this list of projects[0] is like a gold mine. I've known about protobufs for a while, but had no idea about pbf.

I suck at excel, but confession: i know how to make Installer programs and I don't tell anyone anything about them, EVER. I learned how to make MSIs packages and NSIS installers about 15 years ago and it didn't stop until I compl

I avoided ios 11x entirely due to performance concerns and it looks like I may update to 12 because it's reversed most of the slowdowns.

You can run d3 on the backend with node. It shouldn't be too difficult using it with a layout to constrain the potential visualization to a more comprehensible data set. There's even a d3-node package available to generate a stat

That one is quantifiably the most difficult to decern, but the irregular kerning gives it away. Helvetica has slightly better spacing between letters.

These are all good points, but if Netflix's content quality continues to erode (licensing expirations, crap original contenT), people will leave Netflix and use that money elsewhere.

This used to drive me crazy when GraphQL was first announced without a working download, compared to OData and several usable implementations. At the time there was also a compelling js library supporting OData.. [1]. > Breeze.js: Ri

> It's all about getting a very compatible motherboard. 100% agree. When buying, if one keeps to the specific hardware listed in the buyers guide and golden builds from tonymacx86, that alone should alleviate the majority of issues

I was debating a similar setup with a Skyreach 4 mini sff case, but building your own case sounds interesting. Would love to see yours when finished. [edit: typo]

I upgraded the ram and disk on my 2012 13in MacBook Pro. The lack of upgradability on the newer machines is a real turn off.

I still use a non-retina 13-inch from 2012, as well as an Ultrawide monitor (3440x1440), both of which I apparently wont be using with macOS Mojave. I can't help but think this is just another in a long line of paper cuts endured by pr

I (might have) had a similar experience to the author, but instead with an earlier skylake model of the Intel NUCs. The only issue I (in theory) had was the predictably slow graphical performance due to the lack of a GPU. Ultimately I chos

I made this change back in 2011 when the Windows 8 developer preview with WinRT single-handedly annihilated all the WPF & Silverlight consulting work. The writing was on the wall for months, but for me the last straw was the JavaScript

Yeah, so a trip to wikipedia can answer pretty much all the comments here. AngularJS 1.7.1 was released June 8 2018 (3 days ago), and active development is set to end June 30, with 1.7.x supported as LTS through until June 30 2021. [1] Angu

There is a lot to like here, but I wish viewing by tags had a more obvious sort applied. Some items included aren't of interest to me, so naturally I'd like some way to filter those out. Viewing a tag is a good way to do that, bu

I had a very similar experience. I didn't get a computer until I showed my parents something I'd built on a TI-81. The one difficulty I had was a physics teacher who would go around and factory reset the calculator prior to test

I also did this until the day came when I wanted to branch and someone showed me how easy it was in git. I still use SVN from time to time with my old repos, but if given an opening, I migrate it to git without hesitation.

I challenge anyone to use jQuery to build a SPA and not re-invent backbone (poorly or otherwise). I built a simple site recently and one complex page ended up with shitty recreations of backbone Model and View.. and never knew until a colle

As someone who used to brew beer, and probably drank too much, I can definitively say it doesn't map well period. I posit the reuse of nouns from apt would have greatly reduced confusion.
