It’s a real drag. We need to step up competence, not fight a war. Viewing China as an enemy vs a strategic competitor leads to bad policy. Like it is killing ASML right now…

I did a deep dive on entropy a couple years ago. I found the concept to be much harder to understand than I expected! Specifically, it was confusing to shift from the intuitive but wrong “entropy is disorder” to “entropy is about the number

It’s not clear to me that this is the case. People in the Netherlands eat such shit food — but they are so healthy because they move a lot and aren’t obese. I’m not sure that food quality is as important as we sometimes hope it is (after al

Who gets to decide? Thats the challenge. The amazing thing is that the pursuit of personal enrichment, when regulated in moderation, tends to create a system that is in the public’s benefit. So we allow companies that are self interested be

Did Hinton win for the restricted Boltzmann machine? I believe Paul Smolensky has some priority with the Harmonium, but Hinton certainly deserves it. But worth reading Smolensky’s paper, it is a classic!! https://stanford.edu

The idea that AI doesn’t “understand” seems implausible with current models. We can say “machine understanding” if normal understanding requires felt experience. Otherwise, for all intents and purposes, the power of these tools rests in the
